  3. Incredible irony of a 13+ year civil war marked by myriad Russian, Iranian, Hezbollah, Iraqi militia, and Assad regime war crimes against civilians and none are universally seen as saviors. Not to mention Kremlin logistic incompetence means there won’t be evacuations half as well-executed as by U.S. TRANSCOM, even with air and sea as options.

  6. The difference is U.S. left Afghanistan, Russians are being driven out of 🇸🇾, If U.S. wanted to at the time they could have redeployed and driven their attackers back into the hills.Russia no longer has that ability.

  8. Just gonna say that I don’t think this situation is very comparable. The Afghans wanting to leave recognized that things would be very different after the departure of the US, and not in good ways. I think here that’s not so much the sentiment. I think the ground population is probably at least somewhat optimistic for things to better. So the pressure to get out is not there any more than it was a month or a year or whatever ago.
