NDA (No Debate on Andrew): MPs blocked from investigating whether public money was used to fund Duke of York’s £12m settlement by ancient custom barring discussion of royals in Parliament

  1. If they are barred from investigating the matter, they must then draw the conclusion in the affirmation to the statement and seek to instead investigate the means by which public money has been funnelled to the case.

I’d like to think those in charge of OUR money do at least keep some damned receipts or accounting trace of the money they tax, store and use on ***OUR*** behalf.

  2. Everyone knows these parliament rules are just made up though. They’re not even written down.
There used to be a “rule” that if an MP has to miss a vote then someone on the other side will not vote to balance it out, out of respect. The Tories threw this out of the window two years ago, stealing a parliamentary vote when a Labour MP was in hospital.

The rules don’t mean shit, investigate away if you really want to.

  3. So? Just ignore it and investigate it anyway. It’s a man made rule on a bit of paper not some fundamental unchangeable constant of the universe.

  4. Parliament could change the rule any time it likes. They just don’t want to because it’s inconvenient.

  5. Time to get rid of these cunts. It’s Insane In this day and age to have a ‘royal family’

    ‘They’re better than you’

    Why?!

  6. Jesus Christ. It’s hard to maintain the momentum at home with the Ukrainian invasion but we can’t forget about crime like this on our own soil

  7. Hasn’t he been stripped of his titles etc?

And also, ancient custom is you can say anything in Parliament and be immune to sanction except for calling someone a liar. You can commit liable, you can name rape victims, you can break the official secrets act, whatever.

  8. But it isn’t taxpayers money – Tldr is the last paragraph.

The Sovereign grant is funded by profits from the Crown Estate, not our taxes, and only becomes public money after the Queen and the Royal household gets it cut to fund the upkeep of occupied palaces.

If we had gotten rid of the monarchy at any point since 1760 when the King gave up his rights to ALL the income from the Crown Estate I can guarantee that pretty much NONE of it’s holdings except maybe mineral and maritime rights would have remained in public hands, so the money would never make its way to the public purse except in taxes.

I get that they want to know whether the Sovereign Grant will be increased to pay for this, but it’s not public money.

If you could truthfully argue that it is Public money, then if Andrew ever drew a Royal Navy Officer’s Salary then that was public money, and every penny he has ever received for his royal duties was public money – therefore the entire settlement will be 100% paid for in public money, whether Queenie helps him with it or not.

But claiming that the Sovereign grant is fully public money because the rest of the crown estate profit goes to the treasury is like saying your parents money is actually yours because one day you’ll inherit it and therefore you should have the final say in what they spend it on.

  9. Just a minute. This government is handing out money like sweeties for the wrong things. They plan to raise 11.7 billion with the NI tax rise, but write off 4.7 billion in fraudulent payments during covid. Has nobody got a fecking calculator in Downing Street? The taxpayer is getting fleeced every day.

  10. see its an ancient custom when its of use to them, but when the Heir to the throne wants a divorce and remarriage and his divorcee wife wants to be Queen, then suddenly all those ancient customs like being head of the church of England can get in the bin.

The Royals are gigantic hypocrites and I;m sick of seeing them take loads of money whilst being so.

  11. Isn’t he fucking happy the war took over in the news (rightly so) so there is less focus on the paedo cvnt.

  12. Just another example of corruption in the royal family
