UK vows retaliation if Paris goes ahead with threat in Brexit fishing feud

  1. “not what we would expect from a close ally and partner.”

It would be fun to see our government answering something like “Prenez un grip et donnez-nous un break” or “take you back en main and let us respirer”

  2. That’s kinda how it works.

Will be funny if we use the legitimate dispute mechanisms to punish them, after they refused to do the same.

  3. This is all macron bluster to garner support before the election. Pointless, and will have ramifications after the dust settles.

  4. I’m French and I apologize for my government. These threats are ridiculous and are made by pricks. I really don’t care about fishing, even if I understand that this dispute has an impact on the lives of some French fishermen. However, threatening the UK to cut energy is shocking to me. The UK is our ally (even though we like to bully each other since 1066) and I think France should not be threatening to cut energy to the Brits while we are entering winter season. This is revolting to me and I think I’m not the only French person to think that.

  5. Back in the day I was in favour of pressuring or punishing the UK for its exit in order to prevent more nations to abandon.

In 5 years time I’ve just turned around. Think it’s been a good move from you, guys. Not sure it would benefit us Spaniards though, completely different economies and situations. I’m not against tied parternship relations but I’m definitely not in favour of EU burocracy and authoritarism. We’re seeing it now with Poland too. Just saying

  6. It would be nice if all governments get together and put a ban on fishing for the next decade at least.

The fucking fishermen are destroying their own trade and with it do irreversible damage to the environment. Morons. The lot of them. From all nations.

  7. Luckily we Europeans are the cradle of civility. Never in European history have these feuds escalated too far. Nice to know this will be discussed in a good manner with smart men.

  8. To our friends across the channel: this is no EU action ( French proposals were blocked by more level headed EU members) and your business is more then welcome in our ports.Hint: looking at recent problems you might want to redirect your economic exchange towards continental harbors owned by more UK friendly countries. Antwerp and Rotterdam will welcome your trade instead of having to undergo the current hostile French treatment. And we also strike less too…

  9. France is behaving more and more like a hostile state, at first it was amusing but now it’s genuinely concerning. What if they actually did cut power to parts of the UK or follow through on some other crazy threat? Wars have been fought over much less.

  10. i see a lot of ppl saying macron do that because of the election, but if it were true then bfmtv would flood us with info about it yet its barely making the news and afaik the fishermen involved are way to little to matter in the vote

what i think is happening is just an ego war between two asshole who somehow managed to become president and prime minister, an ego war which migh have started with the brexit followed with the aukus treason and now that

  11. > No 10 said the threats do not seem to be compatible with “international law”

    LoL.

    Who could have foreseen this!!!!

  12. Only if an organization existed, where European nations could sit down at a table, and discuss these in a civilized manner…
