Southern Spain braces for Arctic front: Snow in some areas.

Spain’s usually mild Andalucía is bracing for a bone-chilling Arctic front, with the coldest weather of the autumn season arriving just in time for the last days of the long bank holiday weekend.
Temperatures are diving into the minuses, with provincial capitals like Granada and Jaén hitting -1°C. In higher areas such as Guadix (-2°C) and Trevélez (-3°C), it’s even frostier. And while the skies are dry for now, Aemet, Spain’s state weather agency, warns that snow is on the cards come Tuesday and Wednesday (December 10 and 11).

It’s not just Andalucía feeling the freeze. As previously reported by Euro Weekly News, Red alerts for snow are in place for regions in the north, including Asturias and Castilla y León, where Arctic conditions are already causing havoc. Across the country, amber and yellow warnings are flashing for fierce winds, torrential rain, and treacherous seas.

Although this weekend’s chill has spared the south of Spain from snowfall, the coming days might tell a different story. With rain and cold temperatures expected from Tuesday, December 10, Andalucía could soon swap sun for snow.
Sierra Nevada is rolling out the welcome mat for tourists as it officially opens its doors this week. Locals are bracing for the much-anticipated drop in temperatures and hoping for snow after a relatively ‘dry’ few years.
