  1. This was my favourite song about the London of 50 years ago. Somehow, I think it still might be appropriate.

  2. Waterloo Sunset always makes me feel nostalgic and fuzzy. Plus the sunsets from Waterloo Bridge really are very good. All the concrete around and about captures the golden hour light beautifully.

  3. London Underground – Amateur Transplants

I heard it on the radio when I was back in school in 2005 and it’s the first song I thought of reading this post. Most of it is still true and relatable today.

I only just realised it’s by Adam Kay, off’uv the hilarious book This Is Going To Hurt released in 2017.
I guess he was always funny.

  4. Donovan – Sunny Goodge Street

On the firefly platform on Sunny Goodge Street

    A violent hash-smoker shook a chocolate machine

    Involved in an eating scene

  5. Dark streets of London, and Rainy night in soho by the Pogues

  6. Anti-Nowhere League’s version of ‘Streets of London’ is very good if you like the punk styling.

  7. Not my favourite, but worth checking out since it’s relatively unknown. Fron the 1960s

London Town – The Pretty Things

    Cool tune

  8. Not my favourite (that’d be *Waterloo Sunset*), but *London’s Brilliant*, written by Elvis Costello and performed by Wendy James, is really good.

  9. The Pogues – Lullaby Of London

    The Kinks – Waterloo Sunset

Ralph McTell – The Streets Of London

  10. RIBENA – I KNOW WHAT YA DRINKING!

    – London Boy, Kanye

  11. Guns of Brixton, warwick avenue, london calling (of course), and a whole lot more i can’t think of currently

  12. My London London London Bridge by Fergie

I joke but listening to it now on Spotify it’s not as bad as I remembered…

  13. Foreign Beggars/Skrein – Mind Out. Well the 2nd verse at least is overtly London.

Tbh, there are many 00s UK Hip-Hop bangers that are indirectly about London, or at least capture a side of London that resonated with me growing up. For my sins so did Jamie T.

London Calling of course, I always liked it but I appreciate “I live by the river” more than ever, now that I actually do live by the river.

Falling very out of love with my home city recently, living by the river, following the tides, seeing the changes in light, those lyrics have become almost a motto of gratitude to me. (Despite the wider context of the song’s meaning!)

  14. I love this song by an artist called Nadie called Coffeeshop in Richmond which always makes me feel nostalgic whenever I’m in Richmond. Its a beautiful ballad about lost loves and London.

  15. London Town by Light of the World

    London Nights by London Boys

Upper Clapton Dance by Professor Green is very nostalgic as he was a local boy for me

  16. It’s a London thing – Scott Garcia

Takes me back to pirate radio days

  17. Pogues -Rainy Night in Soho

Vera Lynne – A Nightingale Sang in Berkely Square

    Clash – Guns of Brixton

    Pulp – Mile End

    Jam – Strange Town

Carter USM – 24 Minutes From Tulse HIll

Sherman Brothers (Bedknobs & Broomsticks) – Portobello Road

The Streets – Has It Come To This?

  18. Not sure if it’s my favourite, but I love Warwick Avenue, by Duffy

  19. We used to sing this in primary school in the 80s, brings back nostalgic memories. I also remember getting it mixed up with the theme tune to Mr Majeika – similar play on the Pachebels Canon chord progression
