Interesting article about life in the 25 years since divorce became legal.
And on the current state of things:
“The double whammy of the housing crisis and Covid has forced some to stay together for far longer than anyone wanted. “

I remember my parents telling me that of their friends who are divorced now, a good lot voted No in the referendum
Better be divorced than miserable
Knew many a couple who were defacto divorced and were in new arrangements before it was legal. I’ve even been to party of a couple whose divorce was finally granted and their new families were part of the celebration.
The housing crisis in the mix is an interesting one. I know two stories related to that:
1 – Husband and wife had a big nice house and 3 little boys under the age of 9, when they broke up the dad left the house. Because not many people can afford a normal 1 bed apartment in Dublin the dad was sharing in his 40s. The wife wouldn’t let the boys stay with him in the weekends because she didn’t like the people he was sharing with so the dad would come to the house and stay for the weekend with the kids.
2 – Husband and wife were over but living together because of the rental prices and their kids. Both would go out on dates, have sex with strangers and come home to the same apartment after, the vibe inside the place must have been amazing. Of course that situation wasn’t really sustainable and the wife left when things were about to become violent. She ended up getting a one bed for a while that was taking most of her salary until she was able to move back to England with the kids.
