  1. Says director who’s made two films, one that was universally praised and one that was the opposite.

If she wanted to make films people didn’t love she could have continued to develop that Spider-Woman movie at Sony.

  2. Spoken like someone who’s had most of her films flop, so comment check out lol.

  3. I don’t know why people are criticizing this. This is the mindset auteur directors should and do have, as opposed to commercial oriented directors. This is the path she wants to go

  4. Is it not intended to at least make some films people might like? Definitely have some passion projects, funded by the more popular stuff that maybe wasn’t “her favorite” film

  5. I get what she means… but also not. You become a cook because you love cooking. You cook masterpieces and refuse to cook “shit” just because some customers ask for it. But you still want at least someone to recognize and appreciate your art. It might not be the general public but you still cater to some audience.

  6. she’s not a great mind, or a great director. she’s fallen for her own PR.

  7. Fan service isn’t the point of art. Fanbases form around art that is worthy of them, but that art is not then beholden to the fanbase. Just like you have the right to turn your attention elsewhere, every artist has the right (some would say responsibility) to make what is meaningful to them.

  8. But if they aren’t someone liked enough to make money, people won’t continue funding projects. Guess it’s a balancing act.

  9. Wasn’t one of her movies a disaster on set? Left her husband for the star actor or something like that?

  10. Yeah, that’s probably how I’d emotionally cope after bombing.

  11. I know a handful of people who’ve worked with her, and they all have said the same thing, that she’s difficult to work with. She thrives off controversy, and she contrives it around her. She’s a difficult person and an instigator in collaborative settings, so there’s a shrinking list of people who desire to work with her.

I also know a couple people who did a commercial with her, and she threatened to leave the project when she was given notes. She pulled the “you don’t respect female directors” card when her vision felt compromised. Which is just poor form, especially for a commercial.

She just seems like a pain in the ass, and there are too many super-talented nice people in this industry these days to put up with anyone who’s a pain in the ass in 2024.

  12. I’m with her. I wouldn’t give a flying fuck about the audience. Don’t like me, don’t like my movies. That’s okay. I’m not doing it for you at all.

  13. lol, that’s nice, she married a billionaire because she’s a 1 in 100 million looker… not a significant talent of any type whatsoever

  14. The Florence Pugh one was good. And so was Booksmart! Idk.

  15. Like stop with the art bullshit

Only a few movies are art and the rest are people making a shit ton of money doing something fun

  16. ah, the good old “the less people know my work, the better” rationale of egomaniacal failed artists

  17. One says this kind of stuff when one’s work is a failure

  18. I think she’s in good shape as her plan seems to be working perfectly….🤭

  19. Does she put up all the money to produce these films, pay the entire production staff (including actors), and cover distribution? I’m thinking no. So no, Miss Wilde, there’s a little more to it than that.

  20. Actors who move on to directing somehow start to take themselves too seriously or something.

  21. I hate this mentality from directors. Why should audiences pay money for a ticket if you’re not trying to make entertaining movies?

  22. As an actor you want to make films for the thing that keeps you working in the industry… the audience.

  23. Booksmart was good but I feel like it’s become overshadowed by Bottoms now. Like Bottoms was what Booksmart wanted to be lol

  24. Social media won’t hold a candle to AI in terms of threat. In the future it won’t even be in the same league.

  25. I really feel like actors and actresses are some of the dumbest people i have ever met/ dated/ hung out with.

  26. Something ever film investor likes to hear from a director

  27. Fun fact her birth name is Olivia Cockburn. Not kidding.
