Almost no one could have predicted the Assad regime would fall today. The “realities on the ground” crowd would have denied such a possibility. A reminder of why people in Ukraine fight rather than surrender.

“One of the biggest lessons from Syria is that, just a month ago,
almost no one could have predicted the Assad regime would fall today.
The “realities on the ground” crowd would have denied such a possibility.

In case you want avoid visiting x.
I don’t want to say “But I have known it before”.
Hm, there were some signs.
In August 2022 Russia has transferred S-300 systems from Syria back to Russia
and recommended Iran to get out there.
Then there was the situation in Nagorny Karabakh, when Russia could not help
its ally-by-contract Armenia (CSTO member).
The leader of the biggest party of the regime in Myanmar asked in Moscow for help
in the fight against “terrorism”. Some weeks later the regime had to invite the rebels to peace talks.
And Abkhazia. The president wanted to sign an investment agreement with Russia.
The opposition feared the loss of land to new Russian owners and started protests,
also trucks they “borrowed” from the army.
And what did Russia? Recommended compatriots to leave, saying this is an internal thing.
When you hear that the Kremlin was surprised, it means it was staged . Always the opposite

Fucking right!
Russia lost in Afghanistan after 10 years and lost the first Chechen war.
During the second Chechen it took them 10 years to declare victory.
Ukrainians are stronger and they will prevail with our without the United States, they still have Europe.
Pootin’s regime is brittle. When giants fall they can fall rapidly and unexpectedly.
“How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked.
“Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.”

It’s surprising Assad wasn’t strong enough to fortify the area around Damascus and make it too difficult for the rebels to overrun. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next but everyone knows the Russians are toast there.
When Russia falls perhaps we can retrieve Assad for The Hague
