Irish voters head to polls in closely-fought general election • FRANCE 24 English

Ireland began voting Friday in a closely-fought general election with the incumbent coalition neck-and-neck with opposition party Sinn Fein after a campaign marked by rancour over housing and cost-of-living crises. The election also marks the first time for far right candidates to be on anti-immigration tickets, FRANCE 24’s Hervé Amoric said, reporting from Dublin

  1. Sinn Fein winning most seats in the Irish elections won't be good news for the Good Friday Agreement which ended the troubles in Northern Ireland.

The party believes in a united Ireland and might pressure London to make more concessions on Northern Ireland and its governance.

  2. The EU didn't save Ireland. Austerity inflicted on innocent people delayed the recovery by a number of years and the politicians got off scot free

  3. Not 1 vote to be given to the traitors FF,FG,Greens or SF vote independents and nationalists like Irish freedom party

  4. The EU didn’t save the Irish economy you nut job. We bailed the failed Central banking cartel out without a choice. The EU has no assets backing any of its fiat. Its Monopoly money

  5. My vote is to slap all the parties. First votes will be for all independents. Then FF. Last, the greens and SF and FG absolutely last. If everyone voted this way, all parties would know to stop all the wokeness and the slavery to Brussels. FF would have to try to form a government with the independents who put Irish first.
FF would also know that we can pull the rug out from under them, too, in another general election.
This would give independents 5 years to grow and consolidate.
We need an end to the long-standing party politics in Ireland.

  6. None of them want out of the EU.
None of them get my vote.
I removed myself from the register years ago.

  7. 'Ireland' didn't go to the polls……the Republic of Ireland, however did do so.

    IRELAND…..when the '6 green fields' come home…… 🤗…… 32 ☘️🇮🇪

  8. RTÉ on TV and radio let it slip that many did not receive their voting cards, but still tried to vote within their voting hall, yet they were told "No, you don't have your card, and/or, your name isn't on the list". Some with disabilities did not receive special provisions so they could easily act on their right to vote, so they ended up not being able to cast their vote. Not once did Rté or other media highlight and challenge this throughout the election nor after it. Vote counting should have stopped once these serious allegations were made and an independent investigation launched. If found to be true, automatically, we should have restarted the election process again, this time with initiatives put in place throughout every community, making sure everyone is signed up to vote that wishes to and that those with disabilities have the means by which they can cast their vote. Top that all off with the fact that our main media sources didn't cover every election candidate in their live debates and discussions, so many didn't know what the new person(s) stood for. A folly of an election, utterly unprofessional.
