I decided to make this post because I’ve seen a lot of false rumors floating around about the Allegro train between St Petersburg and Helsinki. Rumors like that train tickets cost €6000 and are no longer available online, that all trains are fully booked until June or just simply don’t run at all anymore.

This is not true.

If you are a Finnish or Russian citizen wanting to leave Russia via the train you can. Train tickets cost about €100 and can be bought here:
https://shop.vr.fi/onlineshop/Welcome.do?request_locale=en

All you need is:
– Finnish or Russian Citizenship
– a Visa for Finland/EU (if you are Russian)
– a negative COVID test or proof of vaccination (check THL)

I checked myself today and could book a ticked from St Petersburg to Helsinki leaving tomorrow.

  1. Part of the rumours come from screenshots of website RussianTrain.com, asking price was something like 9000€. Currently they don’t seem to have any tickets available.

Buying thru VR website with Russian credit card might be problematic, if the SWIFT block works, but I’ve no knowledge about that.

  2. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t VR also say that Ukrainian citizens are allowed to travel for free? Is that only within Finland or is it from Russia to Finland as well? Fact is that some refugees are in Russia.

  3. I’m not sure but I think Sputnik (russian) vaccine is not enough, it’s not approved in EU.

Might want to check that out so it does not come as a surprise in border etc.

  4. Can a regular russian, who do not support putins regime (and has intermediate english) somehow immigrate, at least for a little bit, in Finland? I am really worried about the fact that im not being able to leave this country anymore 🤕
