Thousands of girls as young as 11 in England hiding signs of ‘deep distress’

  1. I don’t mean to make this a us and them argument, but 3/4 of young suicides are done by boys, but you rarely see articles specifically focused on that. Not sure why because it’s a massive discrepancy.

  2. A life lived online isn’t good for anyone, but for girls, exposed to the unreality of Instagram filtered models, misogynistic porn, and the drama and gossip of whatsapp groups, will find it very challenging.

The pandemic is creating a huge mental health crisis that will last for decades – this generation of boys and girls are not learning the real world social skills they need to cope with real people.

  3. Distress is part of life if you ask me deep down everyone is miserable it’s part of life but of course there should be help out there to help people manage this distress but this Author really has not done thorough research

  4. Current waiting time to be allocated a CAMHS worker in my county? 6 months. Unless it’s an emergency then it’s fast-tracked. This is not preventative treatment – its reactionary.

This is not a dig at CAMHS at all. Their overworked workers are doing what they can with a slashed budget and huge caseloads. The real finger should be pointed towards our government that cuts budgets to vital services.

  5. I remember as a kid girls being the ones to complain about their mental health way more than guys and it seems to be the same now, judging from stories I’ve heard from my (female) teenage cousin.

100% you can be sure if the evidence was the other way around, The Guardian would never report on it, since it doesn’t meet their criteria of feminism, racism against non-Whites or tory-bashing (and no I’m not close to being White or voting Tory). The Guardian is just becoming a “left wing” (or more whatever they see as being “left wing”, which in this case is females are always downtrodden and males never are) Daily Mail at this point.

  6. <sarcasm>makes me feel lucky I grew up male. As a boy, i never suffered feelings of depression, loss, or distress. I was never bullied, or insulted, or beaten up, or harassed. Yup! being a boy was a breeze. Thanks patriarchy!
