As the Notre Dame de Paris has been reopened, I wonder, what is your countries best church or cathedral. No Sven, no mosques allowed.

No joke, this thing is “famous” for being leaner than the Tower of Pisa.

Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica of the Nativity of Saint Mary (the Duomo of Milan)
While not flashy or grandiose, I really enjoy the medieval round churches found on the Danish island of Bornholm, they are just quaint and unorthodox

The Ste Chapelle is more beautiful than ND, imo.
Westminster Abbey – Our most illustrious are buried here (and not just kings & queens either).
Edit; Interesting fact, Westminster Abbey is a “Royal Peculiar”, by that it is not owned by the Church of England but by the Sovereign themselves. It has no Diocese it belongs to (no Bishop).

Non is granted than Cologne cathedral, but there are more beautiful ones. The French fucked themselves with Cluny. Notre Dame de Reims technically is the more impressive Notre Dame, but both together would still fade to complete irrelevance in the shadow of Cluny, but they let it fall to disrepair and torn it down.

Dresden – Frauenkirche.
It’s stunningly beautiful. But it also needed some minor renovations because Barry, well, did a thing.

It’s not a church but chapel, but it has nevertheless unique Czech interior design.

we can’t pick one, we have too many
any more specifics?~
Lincoln Cathedral is probably our best, even without the spire.
Beware of the final Boss inside, the cathedral of Clermont litteraly made of black lava stone:

Those Norman’s sure knew how to build a cathedral
Unironically [this](https://planthebestvacation.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Duomo-or-the-Cathedral-of-Santa-Maria-del-Fiore-in-Florence-Italy-scaled.jpg)
Ironically we have a [cathedral](https://media-assets.ad-italia.it/photos/64a5383c75563d986e2d4d5d/master/w_1600%2Cc_limit/Il%2520Duomo%2520di%2520Milano%25202.jpg) that took 500 years to complete, showing our superior PIGS efficiency

Technically not in Italy but I don’t care, Saint Peter basilica is the best church/cathedral/place of worship in the world and it’s not even close.
It was a giant collaboration effort between the best artists of the renaissance, the interior is design porn, the exterior is design porn and it’s also the biggest church ever.

Just beautiful 🥰
Not our best, but the Lisbon cathedral is siege of a patriarchate, there are only two patriarchs in Europe the cardinals of Lisbon and Venice.

Isn’t Amiens cathedral double the size of notre dame. Saw that a few weeks ago and it was quite impressive.
I do like St Paul’s cathedral in London for uk choice.

For the outside look, I’d go with these examples, monastery of Montserrat, Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, basilica of Nuestra señora del Pilar, Cathedral of Mallorca

Helsinki Cathedral
We’d have so many more if they hadn’t been torn down
Im suprised no one has posted the cologne cathedral by now. For me thats easily number 1. Took only 632 years to build.

Not the exterior but the interior of the Kings Chapel in Cambridge is stunning and quiet unique. The ceiling is what is known a a ‘fan vault’ which can’t be found anywhere outside of England with the ceiling of Kings Chapel being the largest example. It’s quite beautiful.

My home town, Durham cathedral. Used as a filming location for the first two Harry Potter films and Avengers Endgame.
You keep your stone churches. This is Borgund stave church, ca. 1181.
