The Cyprus Shipping Chamber successfully organised the Charity “EMBRace Relay” (3.5 km) and Marathon (35 km) on Sunday, 8 December 2024, at the Limassol Seafront. The event marked the closure of the Chamber’s anniversary year, celebrating 35 years since its founding in 1989 and was held also in view of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated on 3 December.
The event started with the elite 35 km runners completing a challenging route, followed by the Relay Race, where, with great emotion, children with disabilities surpassed the traditional limits of ability. They carried the baton, exchanging it every 750 meters and finishing together as a team.
This event was a celebration of inclusion, highlighting the strength and capabilities of all individuals. The relay participants included children with disabilities as baton bearers, accompanied by staff from the Chamber’s Shipping Member-Companies and their family members.
The event was attended by the President of the Chamber, Mr. Themis Papadopoulos, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs. Marilena Evangelou, the Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Yiannis Armeftis, and the Vice President and General Secretary of the Limassol District Committee of the Pancyprian Organization of People with Disabilities, Mr. Pantelis Chrysostomou and Mrs. Themida Anthopoulou.
The event concluded with the President of the Chamber presenting the net proceeds of the event, to the Pancyprian Organization of People with Disabilities.
The Cyprus Shipping Chamber extends its heartfelt thanks to all participants, runners, children and their families, sponsors and supporters and to everyone who helped make this meaningful event a success.
