Based on the headline I assumed he died
Wait he’s not dead ?
Fuck off, Chevy hit the highest point possible in the 80’s, had some drug problems like so many, and came down hard. He will always be a legend.
Ouch, what a complete take down. No idea about Chase, sounds like a complete asshole by this account. I can’t help but recall that his absolutely devastating roast still featured Beverly D’Angelo who still appeared to feel genuine affection for Chase. Given that they made I don’t know how many Vacation movies together, this gives me some hope that there is a human in there who isn’t completely bereft of worth.
I know a lot of people who know Chevy Chase. I don’t know anyone who likes Chevy Chase.
So Chevy chase has the same rating amongst peers as Ted Cruz…. For another year… groundbreaking, truly.
It’s pretty telling that every time a negative story about the guy becomes news, he’s the only one refuting it. Even the entertainment industry’s biggest monsters who committed horrible crimes had showbiz buddies to defend them in the press. Nobody defends Chevy chase besides Chevy chase
He was good looking as a younger man, valedictorian of his boarding school. born into privilege, but claims to have been mistreated l, has perfect pitch which probably charmed people when he was a kid, was the breakout star of a tv sensation.
That sounds like a recipe for asshole stew to me.
None of you know him, you believe whatever you hear. Not everyone who becomes famous likes the popularity contest and craves attention, therefore they are branded A-Holes. I am sure he was just very disillusioned by fame, most seem to love it and hate it.
He always seemed like a dick.
On thought he’s dead
Great article, and kind of fascinating how effortlessly charming he came off on-screen, when it seems it was all an act.
He was insulting the writing on Community. Like who is writing better stuff for you than Community? He’s obviously very talented, but they were the ones propping him up. The episode about him that they made after he left the show and his character died was funnier than anything he’s ever done.
Just not a fan now. Original SNL fine but his movies are just not laugh out loud funny. I enjoy most Bill Murray roles a lot but I hear he is kinda douchy too.
He was also the first drummer of what would become Steely Dan. I’ll wait while you Wiki that…
Edit: Oh I just noticed it’s actually mentioned in the article.
Steely Dan wrote a song about how much they hated him, called Through with Buzz
Chase was really young when everything took off. Two Off-Broadway National Lampoon shows with Belushi where they got all the attention. (The picture with the chair.) Then SNL and immediate, overnight national success.
Then successful movies and then….failure. A naturally abrasive guy who became even more abrasive when no one wanted him to be a movie star anymore.
It’s like Ellen DeGeneres. She got everything she wanted in life and chose to be a nasty person no one wanted to be around.
Do we really trust an author who can’t spell Aykroyd?
At least he’s not a rapist… I fucking hope…
I heard he’s a G D B
Chevy was, and will always be, streets ahead.
*What an asshole*
Legend in his own mind. Reality- not that funny at all. Kinda douchey weird too.
I think it was a Howard Stern interview where he talked about his father being physically abusive, iirc he didn’t want to talk about it much. It’s no excuse of course, but I think he probably experienced some pretty bad stuff growing up, and probably became a version of the person who abused him.
I wonder if there’s any positive stories about Chevy Chase lol?
