I parked in my street where I regularly park, only this time, I got a huge fine and by car was towed.

I am posting here to see if this is something that I can fight? Also, I think I was parking wrong when I was putting my car on the Pedestrians a bit, but all the time, I see other cars doing the same as well.

Except putting the car a bit on the walking place what might be I doing here wrong?

So, I have learned that towing was reasonable and I did this to myself when I parked it at the wrong place. Reasonable thing to get fined for the mistake. But too much fine in my opinion, nonetheless, got it cleared.

  1. You are too close to an intersection and reduce the width of the pedestrian path below minimum.

    Edit: got confused with the cars, the intersection is thus afaik wrong.

  3. “Parken auf dem Gehweg”, parking on the sidewalk, which was left too narrow to pass for people with strollers or wheelchairs. Yep, that’s a no-go.

    You’re going to have to pay. The fact that you see others doing so will not help you.

    If you parked wrong and got fined, I am not sure what your question is, though? Just pay.

    If you are looking for ways to not pay because you are special and rules don’t apply to you, you can fight tickets by yourself or with council. There are a bunch of lawyers doing this for a living. Usually they will first try to win on technicalities. But for a 200€ fine (incl. towing) it will probably not be worth it.

  5. Nothing to fight here. Parking on the sidewalk is forbidden unless explicitly allowed by a special parking sign. In general you and the car on the other side are parking so tight that there is most likely not enough room for emergency services (e.g. fire trucks). Find a better spot next time.

  7. ok out of curiousity. Why did you take photos of your car before it got towed?

  8. You did 2 parking violations at the same time:

    You parked on the sidewalk and
    You parked within 5 meters of an intersection

    If you do multiple violations at once, the most expensive violations will be fined.

    My guess is that they towed you away, because you blocked traffic in the intersection, while they still fined you for more expensive parking on the sidewalk .

    Okay now some additional places, where you can’t park:

    In front of driveway , in small roads also across from driveway

    In front of lowered sidewalk

    Within sharp corners

    In front of fire department access (feuerwehrzufahrt)

  9. I honestly don’t find it that expensive for getting towed. It’s expensive, no doubt, but around what I’d expect for getting towed.

    Just for your info:

    This is NOT a fine. It’s a bill.

    They decided it was soo bad that they towed your car, and make you pay for the entire process: police coming there, towing company doing their job and parking the car at their place, and so on.

    The official fine should be just 80€ (parking on sidewalk + endangering others), and it’s likely you will receive that by another letter.
