This is an Android app built just for the purpose of tracking our (me and my partner) adventures. We are frequent travelers and this only counts trips that we took together (it doesn't count work trips, etc that we were not both there). In early 2023 we FIRE'd, and began living part-time in Mexico, but still coming back, occasionally, to our home base in the US. The open squares are the day a trip ended, because this is a representation of nights away, not days away.

I wrote this app only because I wanted this visualization. My girl says others would use it too, but I feel like it is very specific to our situation. Let me know if you disagree with me, I may put it out there (for free) on the app store, or whatever. The app has a lot more detail about locations and timelines, blah blah, as you may imagine.

  1. Ok, so: where and how I got the data – my girlfriend and I are both data nerds. It was at first kept on a Google spreadsheet, which was fine, but then I wanted more graphics and summarizations. And incidentally at the time: (the tool) I decided to upgrade my skillz to Android Compose/Jetpack, and this was my guinea pig. I have an Android game from way back in the day, and I needed to catch up, so this was my experiment. And it turned out great!

  2. ’Hey plebs, enjoy this app I made for fun just to keep track of how awesome it is to be absolutely loaded. Maybe you can use it too, prolly not though. Later suckers.’

Good for you I guess lol

  3. I know this group can be overly pedantic & fickle about what constitutes “beautiful”, but I legitimately thought this was the 1981 Donkey Kong arcade map.

  4. I would 100% use an iOS version of this app! I’m a performer and I’m on the road many nights a year (around 190 in 2024) – would be awesome to have that visualization over time. Looks cool!!

  5. With so many departures, it is normal that they will retire you early.

    App name?
