Germany hasnt even got the a8 variant? As far as o remember germany “paid” for those m84 and bmps and the paid funds are saud to be used for future purchase of the a8 leopards.
But still. M84 in “exchange” for a8… is a pretty good deal…
In 1991 the last batch of these, 14 in total, left Ðuro Ðaković to be shipped to Kuwait. Milošević needed the dollars, to be paid to Belgrade through YugoExport. Tuđman needed the tanks. So they made a deal – 7 tanks will stay with the Croatian Army, while the other seven will be shipped to Kuwait.
So in the middle of war, Croatian and Serb forces watched as a train load of tanks went calmly through their lines, all the way to the Ploče port, to be loaded on a ship.
Which was also a great argument for all of us in Sarajevo to believe that the war will end in a few weeks.
These were also the last 84s produced.
