  1. ***The Telegraph reports:***

Cartoons such as [Peppa Pig](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/peppa-pig/) and Paw Patrol prevent women from going into construction and road maintenance as they perpetuate gender stereotypes, a Spanish MP has said.

Marta Serrano, the country’s secretary general for land transport, said such cartoons presented a “social and cultural challenge” as “all the workers are giant, very muscular men” in the show.

During a conference on the role of women in the transport sector, she said: “We are teaching girls that the road sector is not for them and is a man’s thing. [In Peppa Pig](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/02/29/peppa-pig-fat-shaming-criticism-unfair/) or in the Paw Patrol, those who work fixing the roads are strong men.”

She added: “It is something that [impacts them from a young age](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/2022/10/26/why-childrens-tv-force-reckoned/) and, if they do not have that awareness, it is very difficult for them to choose us in secondary school.”

The Left-wing politician said her own daughter does not think it is plausible for women to enter transport sectors “even though she sees me working on the other side”.

“We are still far from achieving parity,” Ms Serrano said, adding that only 10 per cent of the road maintenance sector in Spain was [made up of women](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/01/16/half-spanish-men-feel-discriminated-feminism-backlash/). In senior positions, women account for just four per cent.

  2. Pepa pigg discourages children from eating jamon. Which is far worse!

  3. Oh come on! What is she gonna say next? That boys dislike pink while girls love it because social norms instead of a gender-specific inherited trait?

  4. Wow! Road work and construction jobs, some of the safest and highest paid jobs on the market. 🤦🏻‍♂️

  5. While the example of road and construction jobs seems quite ridiculous, both are definitely shitty cartoons full of stereotypes and lacking educational values.

  6. Having people like this in charge explain why our train system is collapsing, the PSOE government is allergic to picking competent people, they just want party bootlickers.

  7. I have watched Peppa Pig a few times with my son. There is a weird undercurrent of authoritarianism in the writing. They practically worship the Queen and the police. I am lucky my little guy is not really into the show, he likes Bluey way better.

  8. It should come as a relief for her to know those little girls won’t be dying to build roads in the future, they’ll be lacking water and going hungry because idiot MPs refuse to dedicate any of their time to doing any work that matters, preferring to focus on scoring points in irrelevant culture wars.
