  1. It’s no particular shock. The DR isn’t exactly a wealthy nation. Of course they are going to do their damnedest to keep Haitian dysfunction from crossing the border.

    Haiti is so hopeless. I struggle to imagine anything short of an authoritarian occupation by a foreign governor armed with huge resources and an open ended commitment, like post World War II reconstruction of the Axis nations, is ever going to “solve” Haiti. The US is the only nation that could do it, and neither Haiti nor the US has any appetite for that.
