  8. Catherine definitely. Although admittedly I don’t know much about other countries Royal families. Catherine is so classy and has barely ever put a foot wrong.

  12. Maxima. Mary second. Victoria third. I think they understand the assignment best. And I think how they present themselves in public, is pretty much how they are in private too. Personable, hardworking, sincere, not a snob.

  14. Letizia – La Reina de Espana

    First, she’s doing an amazing job preparing her child to be Queen someday. I like a lot of Queens and Queens-to-be superficially, but quite a few are not as hardworking in this area (Notable exception: Queen Matilda of Belgium). Second, I may be naive, but I do believe she wanted Felipe *despite* him being royal, not *because* he was royal. I believe the relationship was kept secret because she initially rejected him because of who he was and the negative effect it would have on her broadcasting career. In other words, he chased her. And she has put up with some of the worst press and in-laws of all royals and just keeps her chin up.

    On the superficial front- she takes fashion risks and wears a lot of retail items. Yes sometimes it’s a miss, but at least it’s interesting. She also loves babies, and when you see her meeting people in a crowd, watch her find the babies to say hello.

  15. Can I nominate an Empress? Masako has my utmost admiration because she’s been through extremely strong mental difficulties and has kept going, and just strikes me as a very warm and dignified representative of Japan. Her position and the work she can do is a lot more constrained than any of the others, but I think she does well with what she has to work with.

    And her career and academic life before marriage was impressive – she clearly has drive, a work ethic and brains

    For future Queens, Leonor has my vote. She has taken on being in the public eye very young with a great deal of seriousness and seems to strongly understand and accept the demands on her life, in a country with much stronger republican and in places separatist sentiment than some of our others.

    Queen Sonja of Norway!

    When they visited my country (Estonia) in 1998, I was chosen as a boy to give her flowers. She however stopped and briefly talked to me, which I didn’t expect. She noticed the improvements I made to my wheelchair and said it’s amazing. My language skills were pretty bad, but she patiently ignored all the mistakes and asked interesting questions about our education system and my memories of the Baltic Way. She said she admired the Baltic countries and she said she envied me my “beautiful hair”. I’m a man with extremely blonde very curly hair, everyone only mocked my looks and my hair until that point. It meant the world to me, I’ve loved her ever since. I met my husband two weeks later and I kept rambling about the beautiful queen I met.

    Shame about the younger generation, the king and queen are wonderful.

  23. Crown princess Victoria by far I’ve always found her to be very grounded and strong and now I love her family, I think she’ll be a wonderful queen
