Minister says fleeing Ukrainians can apply to pick fruit and veg in UK in deleted tweet

  1. This is the kind of ‘two-birds-one-stone’ solution which a sociopath suggests to try to convince you they are capable of caring about others. David Brent hands.

  2. Has anyone considered testing election candidates for mental health issues and intellectual disability before they are allowed stand for election.

  3. I mean what do you expect from a government that is expressly anti-refugee and anti-immigrant to the extent that they left the EU to keep out Eastern Europeans and then passed laws to allow refugee boats to be pushed back out to sea? And now Tory voters are surprised that they are being less than accommodating to… Eastern European refugees? Shock and horror.

  4. Every time they come out with some nasty, negative, joyless statement, I wonder “can the Tories sink any lower”? And here we are…

  5. No surprise there. Eastern European people are seen as cheap exploitable labor across western Europe. The way they talk about us in the UK specifically is fucking horrible.

  6. MPs really just need to get off Twitter generally. It gives them far too much rope to hang themselves, although that does make it useful for s to know exactly how they are feeling.

  7. If he had any shred of integrity he would resign and if Boris had any he would remove him from his post. Neither will happen.

  8. Why are conservatives so focused on picking fruit and veg? It’s kind of funny how they manage to shoe horn it into literally every issue. WW3 could break out and these fuckers are still stuck on thinking about unpicked potatoes.

  9. Why am I not surprised? Fucking Tories being fucking degenerates as always. Fuck them for being awful humans and fuck them for doing nothing to help.

  10. But I’m a doctor/engineer/teacher/scientist – I have professional qualifications and had a good career in Ukraine- whatever, get fruit picking matey. The Tories.

  11. But that’s taking away jobs from BRITISH PEOPLE /s

Seriously I’m expecting them to start forcing benefits claimants to do that stuff before too many more years anyway.

  12. My Ukrainian friends and colleagues are scientists, engineers, politicians and programmers.

Not fruit pickers, just because they were born in Eastern Europe.

    Ignorant cunt.

  13. This sort of shit is as out of touch as holding parities during lockdown. I’m pretty sure that at the moment even the most blue rinse Christchurch Tory that exists would welcome Ukrainian refugees with open arms. And haven’t we heard countless times how the Conservatives are only against economic migrants and would happily take ‘genuine’ refugees?

That tweet was the most tone deaf thing I have seen in British politics for along time. Obviously designed to play to the base, so I’m not sure which base the Tories think they appeal to anymore.

  14. I’ve noticed that Tory MPs never put their party on their Twitter bios. It’s common to see “Labour MP for …” or even have SNP/Labour in their Twitter handle (Clive Lewis is LabourLewis for example).

Tory MPs are *always* “Member of Parliament for…”

  15. ‘Works under Priti patel’ fucking shocked.

That department is worse than the met. With how brutal they are I’m surprised they haven’t volunteered to be sent to the front lines but they’re so heartless they’d probably forget which side they were supposed to be on.

  16. Kevin Foster is the MP of my home town, he is a huge wanker. Runs his mouth like it doesn’t run out of batteries. The people of Torbay hate him – god know why he is continuously voted back in.

  17. “Pick fruit and veg…” I guess from self-inflicted Brexit labor shortage?

Tangentially related (on subject of Ukraine):

The National Bank of Ukraine has opened a special fundraising account to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

    Please donate and share.

There’s surprisingly not as much news coverage on this as I’d expect, but I decided it’s legitimate based on the following sources:

    Please note that:

I did a $20 test payment using the new “card transfer” option, and it seems to have worked: https://imgur.com/a/Aj42dRT. There’s a nominal processing fee involved.

I scheduled a $500 wire transfer with my bank, which also seems to have worked: https://imgur.com/a/Aj42dRT. However, note the wired funds won’t be available to the recipient for a little over a week. Not sure if there’s a similar delay with the credit card payment, or if the credit card payment is actually faster.

If you’re using wire transfer, you should donate a higher amount just so it’s “worth” the wire transfer fee you might incur. (For example, doesn’t make sense to pay $15 wire transfer fee to send $20.)

Placing international wire transfer requests involving intermediary / correspondent banks is inconvenient and complicated if you don’t normally do them. They’re not always an option and/or involves wire transfer fees depending on your bank account.

You should, as always, also donate to conventional NGOs such as Doctors Without Borders, Red Cross, International Rescue Committee, UNICEF, UNHCR, etc. as well to support humanitarian efforts.
