  6. What happened to the super zen, worldly Jim Carrey that was supposed to start teaching the world the way of “Alrighty Then”? Could have been the most epic cult leader and had such a wild character arc but he just had to be as much a consumer as the rest of us.

  7. It’s a refreshingly honest answer from a celebrity. It’s fine, just no need to announce retirement. When it’s time to do it, years will have gone by and collectively we’ll realize he hasn’t been in anything in years and he can be “yeah I retired”.

  11. I’m working on a sequel to the Truman show. It’s a mockumentary style film that interviews Truman and talks about his life in the decades after he left the dome. I’ve got a rough outline going 

    So this would be great if he kept acting until I got it completed and then somehow (never going to happen probably) convince jim to return to the role if he’s compelled by the script enough 

  13. Reminds me of when Christopher Eccleston was asked what attracted him to his role as the baddie in Thor: The Dark World and he just shrugged and said ‘I’ve got a mortgage to pay.’ Kevin Feige looked pleased.

  15. Less trolly, but still reminiscent of Michael Caine being criticized for making Jaws 4 and him quipping that he’s never seen Jaws 4, but he has seen the house he bought his mother.

  16. I appreciate the honesty, acting is a job and it’s perfectly fine to do something just because of the money. It’s also gotta be hard to just stop when you have that natural drive to entertain.

  29. I don’t see the need for a celebrity to announce their retirement. Just stop doing movies/tv/music until there’s a day you feel like doing them again. Not like you have to pass some kind of exam to prove you’re capable of it.

    Honestly, people will still watch his movies 100 years after he’s gone, that’s how good he is.

  48. I’ve always hated this guy since I read an article that he was married to his first wife and she supported him and then when he got a job in that movie where he wore the mask called the mask, he dumped her.
