JUST LIKE LITHUANIA

A traditional Lithuanian Christmas Eve dinner called a “Kucios” will take place Dec. 22 at 3 p.m. in the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church hall, 785 Highland Ave., Waterbury.

The Lithuanian community of Waterbury is sponsoring the dinner. The menu will consist of many of the traditional Lithuanian dishes that would be served at home. Coffee and light desserts will follow. Tickets are $35 per adult; under 16 free. Deadline for ticket orders is Dec. 18.

BEER AND FOOD PAIRING

German food and German beer will get a chance to dazzle the taste buds together this week.

On Thursday at 6 p.m., the East Side Restaurant in New Britain will pair Warsteiner Bier with authentic German cuisine for a special event.

Bavarian biers will be paired with six German courses. The menu will feature warm pretzel bites, served with zen mustard and paired with the König Ludwig Hefeweizen beer; German Potato Pancakes, served with applesauce and paired with Warsteiner Pilsner; a wurst sampler, featuring an assortment of wurst, including bratwurst, knockwurst, and German sausage, served with zen mustard and paried with Warsteiner Dunkel; Jäger Schnitzel, a pork cutlet topped with brown gravy and sautéed mushrooms and paired with König Ludwig Hefeweizen; roast pork, topped with demi-glace, served with applesauce and paired with Warsteiner Pilsner; and for dessert, German chocolate chake, a rich fudge cake with caramel and coconut filling, topped with whipped cream, toasted coconut, and caramel, and paired with Warsteiner Dunkel.

Tickets are $47.74. All guests will get a mystery souvenir.

GINGERBREAD BAR

Heading to Mohegan Sun this holiday season?

A special holiday pop up, The Gingerbread Bar, will delight casino visitors through Dec.28.

The special venue, located in the Sky Tower Lobby, is a holiday pop-up bar feature holiday magic, fun and gingerbread decor. Sip on festive spirits and holiday-inspired cocktails while sitting by the fireplace with friends. Featured cocktails include Hearth & Mule, Holidays in Manhattan, Winter Wonderland Mimosa, A Berry Christmas Eggnog, Spice Cranberry Cheer and Andrea’s Gingerbread Martini, which honors singer Andrea Bocelli. Bocelli will make a special appearance at the casino’s tree lighting on the Sun Patio, which is 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Hours are 4 to 11 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, 2 to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 7 p.m. Sundays. The bar will be open 4 to 11 p.m. on Dec. 28.
