Indonesia and Norway have launched the fourth phase of their result-based contribution (RBC) funding cooperation, with Norway pledging $60 million for Indonesia’s success in reducing deforestation from 2019-2020.
At Tuesday’s launch event, Indonesian Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq praised the partnership as a milestone under Article 5 of the Paris Agreement. He highlighted that the funding recognizes Indonesia’s success in reducing deforestation.
To date, Norway has provided $216 million to support Indonesia’s efforts to curb deforestation. The collaboration aligns with Indonesia’s climate goals, including a 31.89 percent emission reduction by 2030 through domestic efforts and 43.2 percent with international support, as outlined in its Enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni emphasized the importance of the partnership in achieving the Indonesia FOLU Net Sink 2030, which aims to ensure forestry absorbs more emissions than it generates by the end of the decade.
Norwegian Ambassador Rut Kruger Giverin and Energy and Environment Envoy Hashim Djojohadikusumo also attended the event, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate change.
