LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The annual Nebraska Ag Expo is underway, hosting more than nine acres of exhibits, including what’s known as the innovation hub complete with the latest technology.
The agriculture technology industry has exploded over the years and with the rise of artificial intelligence, there are questions over whether its a good or bad thing to be integrating it into our lives and livelihoods.
A recent poll of rural Nebraskans showed 75% of those surveyed have not used AI before, with many concerned it could force workers out of jobs.
However, in regards to agriculture, more people surveyed believe it will benefit the industry.
“What’s happening and kind of AI and technology going forward is definitely on automating the mundane and wrote tasks that are very repetitive and probably aren’t very interesting or can be tiresome at times,” said Ian Hall, product manager at Aigen.
At the Innovation Hub inside the AG Expo at the Sandhills Global Event Center, many companies have products that use AI to assist farmers in their jobs. One such company is called AiGen
It has a product which uses robots utilizing solar power and AI to weed the fields using a traditional hoe.
“The farmer can focus on making better decisions, buying something, selling something, something that’s more hands on and needs all of their attention as opposed to just a job for doing the job sake,” Hall said.
The expo will have a panel discussion regarding the future and how AI will play a part in that.
