  1. This post was initially automatically tagged as ‘Ticket giveaway – FREE!’ so clearly the automod has a sense of humour lol!

  2. I’m sure that will send all Londoners into apoplexy.

    …oh…wait…

  3. They literally have the easiest job in the world. Only see one every 6 months.

  4. Which bus lines feature the ticket inspectors most often? I’m asking because I have only seen them once in my life and I take buses fairly often between east London and central.

  5. And a million roadmen rubbed their hands in unison

  6. Bunch of morons anyway. I always, always pay my fare but in 30 years of commuting have been fined for:
    – Forgetting to renew a season ticket. Travelling in on the 1st with a ticket that expired on the 31st. Couldn’t make them see that I would likely have to renew it to get home, also had 3 months of old tickets proving I wasn’t a blagger.
    – Sitting in First class by accident. Dirty carriage with rubbish and graffiti, one of those where there’s a tiny First class section and the rest is normal. Thuggish inspector got on and gleefully did his thing. Train was literally empty so it didn’t matter where I sat and a valid seat was three feet away and much cleaner!
    – Arriving at destination, realising I’d forgotten my wallet. Offered my details to pay later/show proof, offered to call a mate to run down from the office and pay, but no go, details taken and a fine.

All many years ago, but still bitter.

  7. What a joke. A ticket inspector can literally do nothing. Example-guy in a ski mask rides for free, gets off at next stop, calmly leaves the station by forcing through a barrier, walks around the corner and removes ski mask. Got away with it.
Ticket inspectors would probably be sacked if they so much as raised their voice or looked at someone funny.

    Useless job.

  8. Got caught at Barnes station. Season ticket 1 day over expiry. Surrounded by a group of great-coated thugs. Nasty experience.

  9. I can only really remember getting checked once on the bus in the last 20 years…saw this article and one on my early morning bus so maybe they are trying to be more visible.

He wasn’t able to check the contactless card though so that might be an issue

  10. One issue I have with buses is that they are SO slow.

    They get held up by

    • Traffic – solution : car restricted roads or bus lanes

    • Traffic lights – solution : smart signalling that changes to allow buses to go sooner

    • Bus stop – solution : allow people to board any door and validate at any point

    • Bus held to even out service – solution : improve the other 3 so buses are more reliable

Ticket inspectors could then board a bus and fine people who haven’t validated their ticket. The current issue is that forcing everyone to board at the front can mean a bus is standing for AGES.
