  1. Maybe the same way they failed to know about Ukraine entering Kursk

  2. Now Russia lost a way to export immigrants to de-stabilize Europe further.

  3. Perhaps for the same reason he believed Ukraine could be taken in three days without any pushback, and soldiers went into battle carrying parade uniforms. But this is the same ‘intelligence’ service that planted copies of the Sims game and a document signed ‘illegible signature’.
But let’s not forget that Russia uses radioactive toxins and nerve agents on foreign soil, so they aren’t *just* clowns.

  4. Well, when your entire regime from the top down is so corrupt, they steal money out of their own war chest for themselves, what’s a little laziness now and then?

  5. That would be the same intelligence service that told him Ukraine would welcome Russian troops with open arms. It’s almost as if they’re just telling you what they think the boss wants to hear, Vlad.

  6. Putin has built a country out of loyalists who know giving bad news and arguing with the boss equals a rendevous with a window.

It’s literally that Simpsons scene where Burns asks for opinions and is surrounded by yes-men until he finally ends up losing it all.

  7. Fair warning Russian Intelligence officials, Trump and Tulsi Gabbard might be impressed with you but I think it’s a good idea to stay away from windows for a while.

  8. Because dictators surround themselves by yes-man that will never deliver bad news.

  9. This is why authoritarian dictatorships always lose to democratic republics. The corruption and incompetence never stops with the leader, it goes all the way down.

Whether it is from fear of consequences or self serving psychopaths or just pure incompetence, the people under the dictator aren’t truthful and hide important information until it is too late to do anything about it, and this continues all the way down to the lowest components. This is a natural consequence when the regime literally murders and imprisons “dissidents”.

Just like the fall of the Soviet Union, there reaches a point where the issues can’t be swept under the rug anymore and chaos ensues in the regime as it self implodes.

Hopefully Russia is right at this turning point where everything collapses, but I wouldn’t bet on it. As we’ve seen with history, this cycle of incompetence can be maintained for many generations.

  10. If they failed to predict assad, then they can fail to predict putin.

  11. Couldn’t afford to see another dictator impaled, might inspire people at home.

  12. Maybe because your country’s military apparatus is beyond pathetic? Russia has been fighting in Ukraine for almost 3 years and all it has done is take control of Crimea and 2 renegade provinces in Eastern Ukraine. These are all areas that were already under Russian control before the war even started. Russia, guys, you literally share a massive flat border with Ukraine and you’ve conquered basically nothing after 3 years of fighting. Now, Russian trolls would say that “Russia is fighting all of NATO” but they’re not, Russia is literally fighting a country with less than a third of its population which is being given old, out of date nato equipment and holding their own quite well. From a military point of view Russia is an absolute joke, so maybe don’t be surprised when your intelligence apparatus is also shit.

  13. I wouldn’t be surprised if some other state actor has trained and supplied HTS, they went from Al- Queada to “the west has nothing to fear from us” in 5-10 years. I don’t like to take any of the credit away from the opportunistic success that they have had, I just wouldn’t be surprised if someone had organised and supplied them.

  14. There’s an intel officer in Russia somewhere having to fluff the shit out of what should be 2-word report titled: Skill Issue.

  15. “I’m sorry you’ve lost, you need to go now. You’ll be safe here, bring your family now. Oh by the way could you also bring the Treasury with you, by the way how much is it, $135 Billion. Good we’ll find a nice dacha for you.”

  16. Maybe because Putin chose loyalist and yes man before any competent person?

  17. “Sir, this isn’t good news. We have an urgent problem developing”

“Brilliant work Ivan, come see this view of Moscow before we look into your report”

Russian intelligence officer in apparent suicide.

“Hmmm how the fuck did we miss these things!”

  18. You, uhh… Redeployed all your Syria forces to Ukraine. Remember?

  19. Because people don’t work as Putin deludes, hahaha.
    Persevere to win!

  20. Putin: “Why didn’t you see it?”

Naryshkin: “We were busy getting drunk and shit.”

  21. *From Bloomberg News reporter Henry Meyer:*

With Syrian opposition forces advancing rapidly toward the capital, Damascus, President Bashar al-Assad’s fate lay in Russia’s hands as his army melted away.

Still haunted by video of the mob killing and mutilation of Libyan leader Moammar Qaddafi in that country’s civil war in 2011, the Kremlin moved to save its ally even as it concluded that it could do nothing to prop up Assad’s regime any longer.

President Vladimir Putin is demanding to know why Russia’s intelligence service didn’t spot the growing threat to Assad’s rule until it was too late, said a person close to the Kremlin with knowledge of the situation.

  22. Makes sense. A desperate bombing campaign against the rebels after the Southern Grouping rose up would have increased the chances of an enraged HTS overrunning their bases in Latakia and Taurus instead of giving them the same treatment the Taliban gave to the US in Kabul airport.

Simultaneously, had Assad been captured or executed, no self-respecting dictator would want to rely on Russia for security.

  23. It took around 12 days of internal warfare to bring down “95% supported by citizens” leader to knees.

  24. Has Assad actually been spotted in Moscow or not?

    Or we taking Russian word?
