Those Russian SOBs secured a deal with the rebels to keep the base, in exhange for money and weapons. They are now shipping some soldiers and equiment out so they can fight in Ukraine.
The Navy at least [doesn’t seem to be leaving](https://nitter.poast.org/MT_Anderson/status/1866506906170237070#m), they’re just parked a short distance offshore to reduce vulnerability. Unfortunately as time goes by the more likely it seems that they struck a deal to keep the bases.
Strike a deal? They were BOMBING your HOSPITALS just last WEEK. I’m sorry but if that’s true then I will have very little sympathy with them going forward.
imagine if the Syrians suddenly give the Russians 48 hours to leave before they start sending in rockects. My guess is the Russians don’t want to be put in that position. That is why they should be leaving ASAP.
Blow’em up, dummies
How, and to where? There’s no open path from Tartus to the Black Sea. That’s a major part of their problem. Turkey has closed off the straits for any military ship without a home base in the Black Sea. Opening them out of benevolence for Russia would be further humiliation but I hope Turkey stays resilient here. This was after all a response to the war in Ukraine.
