Image source, Surrey PoliceWe’re awaiting the verdicts in the trial of the father, stepmother and uncle of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, who was found dead by police at her home in Woking, Surrey, with dozens of injuries on 10 August 2023.
She died two days before and a post-mortem examination found injuries including “probable human bite marks”, an iron burn and scalding from hot water.
Sara’s father, Urfan Sharif, stepmother, Beinash Batool and uncle, Faisal Malik, flew to Pakistan on 9 August, with Sara’s five brothers and sisters.
Urfan Sharif alerted Surrey Police from Pakistan and, during the trial, accepted “full responsibility” for his daughter’s death, but denied that he intended to kill her.
Sharif, Batool and Malik were arrested on suspicion of murder at Gatwick Airport on 13 September, on their return to the UK.
All three deny murder and causing or allowing Sara’s death. Today, we’re awaiting verdicts from the jury, who retired to deliberate on 3 December and are expected to return shortly to court to deliver a decision.
