US and Poland are in talks to deliver Soviet-era planes to Ukraine as Zelensky pleads for fighter jets

  1. Please take our MiG-29s. Slovakia stopped using them because they aren’t deemed safe – Russian technicians have been servicing these jets so no one can’t be sure they aren’t sabotaged. Poland does perform the maintenance by themselves.

  2. How many NATO countries still have Russian planes that Ukrainian pilots can make use of? Sending US or European planes obviously is not going to do anything without the necessary training.

  3. Please remember, that Soviet jets are not necessarily a bad thing. Actually, on the contrary. Moreover, Ukrainian pilots already know the stuff as they fly Migs and Sukhois on a daily basis, so for them it would take no time to fit in.

  4. How long does it take to train pilots with any other fighter from the OTAN? Maybe some Ukrainians should be send abroad to learn how to pilot them. At worst Ukraine would be ready to receive new planes for its Air force.

  5. Hey real question here , how many weapons and support can nato and eu Countries give before its to much and Russia declares war on them I mean cmon we all know Ukraine wouldn’t possible be able without our support to keep fighting this war .

  6. what most people don’t realize is that in the first day of war russia destroyed most radars and most powerful ukraininan air defence. they also deployed advanced SAMs. that’s why you only see very sporadically ukranian jets flying and when they do is for a limited time and for a low range very low altitude missions to very specific targets.
that’s why you see those large russian coluns of tanks and other vehicles intact. ukranians don’t there going there. they know they would be shot down in seconds.
war isn’t that simple. things are not black and white.
some keyboard warriors say the A-10 would solve the problem. well they have the SU-25 which is as effective. yet it doesn’t work.
you can’t impose a no fly zone or establish air superiority without a full out ww3. you would need to destroy hundreds of anti air systems inside belarus and russia.
russia has over 2thousand aircraft. they are only using a very tiny fraction of them in ukraine. and they aren’t even using the most advanced ones. it’s not part of the plan and not part of their doctrine.

  7. Cant we just give all the soviet planes to ukraine and then sell new eurojets to those Eastern European countries at a very cheap price

  8. in a perfectly synchronised world, around 25 ukranian pilots would be right now at rammstein being teached how to man a panavia tornado, which germany owns a gazillion of, and UK another gazillion, with the twin-seat trainer version, while another 25 would be doing the same with f16 or mirage 2000 / mirage 4 in poland, since france has almost as many old mirage planes in stockpile as rats live in paris, and given they’re used to fly soviet-era flying coffins, they’d probably catch up easily with way smoother systems.

Tornados for interception and bombing, mirage and / or f16 for air superiority.

  9. I mean it’s a no brainer. There is no reason to keep these soviet era planes in your own reserve, you won’t be getting parts for them in the future anyways as the parts have to come from Russia. EU countries will have to switch to Rafale/Typhoon/F35s in the future anyways, might as well give the old inventory a proper send-off into “early retirement” over the skies of Ukraine.

  10. Ukraine need planes it can fly and service itself, which is Russian kit. They don’t have infrastructure or training to use western planes. I’ve read – but this is definitely not confirmed, that the US may supply mothballed F16s to Nato members to replace any donated to Ukraine. Poland already have their own F16s so already have the skillbase to use them.

  11. It seems that the Prime Minister’s office has already announced it as fake news after Next tweeted about it today.

  12. As a Pole, this is an interesting idea, but I must say I hope we will buy some newer planes ASAP. They might be needed very soon to protect our borders.

  13. Fucking hate headlines.

This makes it sound like we’re foisting off our trash to Ukraine without realizing that these are the planes that Ukrainian pilots are most likely trained on.
