That’s because there’s a reasonable chance Liz Truss had no idea what was coming out of her mouth so decided to speak first and figure out the details later.
Not saying what she said was wrong, but she certainly hadn’t thought it through.
Ben Wallace is one of, if not the only person in the cabinet with his head screwed on. It’s so bad it actually feels weird defending anyone connected to the government on anything.
I think there’s a reasonable chance that people opting to fight in the Ukraine won’t be coming back.
The decision should be down to individuals, of course. But UK government officials would be remis not to point out the risks to our nationals.

Boris Johnson’s already refused to ban RT from broadcasting in the UK and also refused to retract his lies about sanctioning Roman Abramovich.
Being a mercenary is very risky, Wallace was a captain in the Scots Guards so probably know more about it than a civvy.
