Everyone having a degree isn’t necessarily a good thing. Over-saturation of qualifications leads to useless degrees and less practical apprenticeships.
According to world rankings that title belongs to Ireland. Nice to see Scotland moving up the rankings.
Happy for them. An educated population is good for society and improves the quality of the public conversation.
And to add to something another user has said about that if everyone has degrees they will not be worth it. I personally think that we shouldn’t look at everything from an economic point of view. We shouldn’t do absolutely anything expecting an economic benefit. That’s my opinion, at least.
So the SNP have taken the number of Scots with degrees from 30% to 50% in 20 years. The rest of the UK is at 45%. Of course this is the National, a pro Independence propaganda machine, so it’s portraying that as a good thing. But it isn’t. 50% is too high. The percentage of jobs that require degrees is nowhere near that, so a lot of these people are going to be unable to get a job with their qualification, which may be why Scotland has higher unemployment and a struggling economy. Plus it’s really expensive giving half of all people a degree (especially since the British tax payer covers the full cost of university for Scots). The British Government, and the SNP, should try to focus more on encouraging vocational courses.

Education policies take many years to take effect. This isn’t “a blow to opposition parties”; this is a vindication of Scottish Labour’s 2008 policies.
>Scotland has been number one for the percentage of 25-61-year-olds educated up to degree level for every year between 2011 and 2019
meh. Germany, Austria and Switzerland to a degree won’t be able to have those high numbers because of our different system. But that also means you don’t have to study to become a nurse, unlike in most anglo countries
Odd there is no separate England figure.
Paid for by England’s taxpayers.
In other words: England pays a shit tonne of money for Scotland’s education
Most* educated, not best. There’s a difference…
those are unfair comparisons
the news is comparing whole countries against parts of countries
if we want to compared the equivalent of Scotland than London and Île de France have a greater percentage of educated workforce
