The Legal Obligation to Recognize Russian Deserters as Refugees

  1. So they will sit comfortably, competing for humanitarian resources with Ukrainian women and children, and watch how Ukrainian men work on destroying their dictatorship.

  2. Is it tho? While yes there are those that genuinely have been forced into this, that opens up space for spies and just all round awful people who genuinely support Putin to just come in our countries. Would it be worth it?

  3. Russia would use this policy in its favour. Remember Castro turning out the Cuban prisons and sending to the US as an example. Best not.

  4. Excellent! I salute these efforts. Yes, Russian soldiers unwilling to fight are taking enormous personal risk, as they can be executed or worse. Give them sanctuary.

  5. Well it is Europe and it is there choice in the matter but it should be the choice of the country to do cause they want to or not, not because of some international law (which should have never been put in place from the start).

  6. I would assume majority of the ‘cannon fodder’ who are more likely to desert are there(in the army) because that is the only option for them.Especially if one is not coming from a major city… job opportunities are scarce. And the army provides food, lodgings, pay, career opportunities, even pension. So don’t think every soldier carries a photo of Lenin and Putin close to its heart… these are just some poor lads in need of job. Given the right opportunities in the free world they will be grateful till the end of the world.

  7. No I’m sorry they’re not they’re prisoners of war. And they are prisoners of War because they attacked another country. Now I know you’re saying well they didn’t know okay they didn’t know where they were going , but when they got there they knew wherw they were. They knew what they were being asked to do and they could walk away. And they did not, which doesn’t mean they should be treated badly on the contrary I think the fact that Ukraine is treating them well speaks a lot to the character courage and humanity of the Ukrainian people. . But these aren’t refugees their prisoners of War, and when Russia looses they have to go home.
