Had a few days to kill several years ago, and had the option between Slovenia and the Croatian coast. We went to Slovenia, and it was wonderful. Tons of natural beauty, history, and kind people.

You are welcome, but please dont all go to the capital. It is almost swamped with tourists in the season 😭 so far that it is getting uncomfortable for us locals.
There are plenty of nice places to visit in slovenia and plenty of fun towns.
Ptuj for instance one of the oldest constantly inhabited places in europe. On record from 69AD but with a cletic, iron, and stone age permanent stettlement.
Just browse around.
