I've always wondered is this set up by garages to make money? I've tried to get it on the nose so many times and it always clocks up the extra penny…

… you’re the one pumping the fuel?
I’ve not had an issue stopping on a rounded number you just have to go very lightly from about £19.50.
Stop it in the 99p, save yourself an extra penny.
Skill issue
It’s a trick of the hand my dude. Only true, well experienced pumpers can get it to the .00
Git gud
Apparently for every 100 people they get an extra penny out of, they get £1 in turnover. Makes ya think
Hand them £40 and wait for your change
Its getting harder and harder as the price goes up
The pump counts up in 0.01 litre increments, not 1p increments.
The more expensive the fuel is, the faster the total price counts up – and once it’s more expensive than £1 per litre there will be certain prices that can’t be displayed.
If fuel was exactly £2.00 per litre, for example, it would count up in 2p increments – as each 0.01 litre of fuel costs 2p – so it wouldn’t be possible to have a total price with an odd number of pence.
I gave up trying to hit it on the nose. Life is too short
Some have buttons to the side of the display you can press to set extract cost before you fill up
You’re hand grip is too strong, and your vision is a little off……. What have you been doing in your spare time?
Pull out game.
Just fill the tank, fewer trips to the pump.
Some have it, some clearly don’t.
They all should have an option to select how much fuel or how much you want to pay.
Do none of you use the buttons that limit the amount before you start pumping? Gives me the free mental space to think about themmuns.
If we’re no longer using cash, hitting the score serves no purpose🤔🤔. Tap n go.
As conspiracy theories go this one is harmless if not as equally stupid as the rest
My money saving tip for fueling up in the South (forget that fuel is cheaper in the North now):
Fill your tank with €40.02 of fuel, pay with cash, it gets rounded down to €40 and you get 2c free fuel 🤑
This is the trick big petrol don’t want you to know 😎
I’ve noticed this a lot, I put the exact amount in then watch the numbers as I pull it out and it goes up a penny most of the time. I reckon it’s because of the dribbles that will still be coming out until it’s clipped back in the holder, much like when you take a piss and your lad decides it wants to wait to go back home before letting another bit go 😆
Who the fk is filling up based on £? You go by how many litres you need surely?
I hope OP always wears a rubber because they are definitely having trouble pulling out in time
I used to work in a garage and it’s literally just a skill issue
This is one of those frustrations shared by every driver on this planet.🤣🤣🤣
Lagan Oils on the Hillhall Road?
I know those pumps well, just a skill issue.
You need to work on your ninja skills. Be the pump.
Side question, under the pump there is a little clasp that when you used to pres it back the pump used to keep going until the tank is full then the airlock would knock it off and job was done no need to keep squeezing. Why do these not work anymore?
Most shops will only charge for the 20
This always happens with the pump down the street with me, I select it to stop at £50 but goes over the penny. Last Friday it did £50.03 for the first time
Just do what everyone else does slap a £20 note down and walk out. Don’t use a card to pay, that’s a rookie mistake.
Unethical Life tip, You need to pull up a bit away from the pump and park, so you can drag the full hose length out, preferably park the opposite side of fuel cap and drag it round the boot, guaranteed that there’s least at least a litre or 2, if you need that extra penny.
Surely just filling your car when you need to makes more sense?
Loft problem.
