I just saw this tweet from a Spanish newspaper. Does someone have more information? I wish this is just an “out of context” clip…

  1. Germany currently lets everyone in who comes from Ukraine; this is not related to passports but to any kind of proof that someone was living, working, studying in Ukraine before Putin attacked. Apparently, some people wanted to take advantage of that and were caught on the train.

There are further allegations that only or mostly people of colour were subject to police controls on these trains, bit even the “taz” [cannot confirm that](https://taz.de/Nach-Kontrollen-von-Ukraine-Fluechtlingen/!5839283/) (and you may consider the “taz” the furthest left of Germany’s quality press).

  2. So some lady in some video claims that the „Bundespolizei is pulling black people out of the trains“.

Here‘s some more reliable news (in German): https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/fluechtlinge-faeser-101.html

It is likely that the police is indeed checking who‘s entering the country. That does not mean you will be send back. It means that they wanna know why you are here and where are you coming from. Running from the war? All fine. Trying to use the situation to enter illegally? Well, tough luck.

  3. She’s mentioning “Frankfurt/Oder”. Googling finds the [following article](https://www.rbb24.de/studiofrankfurt/panorama/2022/03/gefluechtete-ukraine-polen-zuege-bundespolizei-kontrolle.html):

    > “Wir richten unsere Maßnahmen nicht nach dem Außenerscheinungsbild aus, sondern wir sichten bei den im Zug befindlichen Personen die Dokumentenlage.”
    >
    > Menschen mit ukrainischem Pass oder legalem Aufenthaltsstatus in der Ukraine dürfen unkompliziert weiterreisen, erklärte Schobranski weiter. Wer das aber nicht glaubhaft machen kann, der muss den Zug verlassen.

So according to their statement, they verify the passport or the legitimacy of Ukrainian residential status, no matter your skin color. Anybody else trying to pretend to be Ukrainian had to leave the train.

So my guess would be that some people who happened to be black actually tried this, and got caught, and then it got reported on social media as “they take black people from refugee trains”, but I don’t have any information beyond what is in the article.
