The Winter Session of the parliament has witnessed uproar with both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) targeting the Congress for its alleged connection with Hungarian-American businessman George Soros and the Congress attacking the BJP for its alleged links with Indian businessman Gautam Adani.

Amid this, a clip of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is going viral on social media. In the clip, Meloni speaks in Italian and states that her country will enact an “anti-Soros” law to stop businessmen from conducting their NGO activities in Italy.

People have claimed this to be the official stance of Italy as the current PM is saying so.

(Archives of similar claims can be found here and here.)

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is misleading.

This video dates back to June 2018. At that time, the PM of Italy was Giuseppe Conte, and Meloni was part of the Opposition.
