Ah, open democracy. Wouldn’t you just love to have it?
Ah yes, No.10 Downing Street…or is it No.9? We’ll never know. It will remain secret!
The reasoning is interesting: it might have an adverse effect on trading. That’s why I want to know so I don’t give criminals my money.
This is tax-payers money! Which firms got it should be known, especially since so many of these firms seem to end up having connections to the Conservatives.
Ha ha we’re not allowed to know which Tory donors they gave OUR MONEY to.
But rest assured that the government keeps so much information from us for our own benefit.
So we can’t see who were given loans, and they’re writing off a fortune in COVID related fraud.
I can’t possibly imagine why.
Yep definitely how democracies operate. World beating. Global Britain. Taking back control.
This stinks to high heaven.
Lets remember this is tax payers money.
ITT: people who have no idea what they’re actually discussing
This is not your tax money, it’s the bank’s money. The loans didn’t come from the government, they came from banks like Natwest, HSBC, etc. The government only _guaranteed_ it which means if the business folds they’ll have to pay the money back to the bank.
Knowing who borrowed on the scheme means absolutely fuck all, borrowing at 2% interest is basically interest free as far as business loans go. It’s not going to change where you shop at, because they haven’t taken any government money if they’re still open.
A large business borrowing on the BBLS only has a negative impact on the bank they borrowed from, as they’re barely getting any interest from it. The government hasn’t paid for the loan.
Just look at the list of Tory donors, their MPs directorships and cross reference
Hundreds of millions of pounds trying to keep secret, lucky the good law project is around then
What happened to the freedom of information bill? Has it been compromised by the data protection act,? I do hope our fine independent media are going to scrutinize this. I’m sure that nice Mr Hislop will soon set his private eyes on it.
So, they’ve actually given up on the pretence that this is a working democracy then?
We’re already reaping the rewards of the Tory botched Brexit…
> Under the EU rules in force until the end of 2020, all pandemic business loans **above €100,000** were required to be publicly disclosed with details of the recipients. **The new £500,000 threshold for public disclosure of state aid**, including pandemic loans, applies from 1 January 2021 and is set out in the government’s subsidy control bill which is going through parliament.
…well botched for hard honest people. For the Tories, it’s going very well so far.
Wonder why that is eh, probably close ties to a few MPs.
And any attempt at a foi request for the names will be vexatious
If there was a timescale to repay in full after which it was disclosed, fair enough. Not hiding for ever.
Politicians should be like race cars and have their sponsorships clearly on display
What does this tell us, given that the loans are funded from the public purse?
It’s important for criminals around the world to know Britain is still open for business. Discretion is the buzzword.
I mean of course, it would very embrassing when it turns out many of the companies that received massive amounts of money are owned by Russia Oligarchs
How long would it take to train-up a cadre of decent forensic accountants if say 1/4 of that allegedly lost to fraud were pushed in the general direction of their education and training?
If they have nothing to hide, they have nothing to fear.
