Queen Silvia of Sweden got into the festive spirit as she put up Christmas decorations with her family this evening.

The royal, 80, received the evergreens at the Royal Palace in Stockholm from the Forestry University’s student union.

She was later joined by her excited grandchildren, as they adorned the trees with an array of Christmas ornaments in anticipation of the upcoming holidays.

On Monday, Silvia was snapped alongside Princess Estelle, 12, Princess Leonore, 10, Prince Nicolas, nine, Princes Oscar and Alexander, eight, Prince Gabriel, seven, Princess Adrienne, six, and Prince Julian, three, as they got to work decorating the trees.

The group of girls and boys beamed as they entered the room holding baskets of sparkly baubles to spread across four fresh trees.

Eldest granddaughter Estelle – who is the daughter of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel – was holiday-ready in a bright red shirt with a matching skirt.

She paired the Yule-inspired ensemble with black sheer tights and a pair of platform biker boots.

Estelle – who is second in line to the Swedish throne – was seen taking charge of her cousins as she delicately placed the trinkets on top of the trees.

Queen Silvia sported a crisp, black blazer featuring golden buttons, a cream turtleneck jumper and smart trousers.

She opted for comfortable black loafers and wore her shiny brunette tresses in her signature feathered bob.

At one point, the queen lovingly put her arm around Prince Alexander, who looked smart in cherry-red jumper and chequered skirt – as she organised the children at the event.

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s son looked in high spirits as he gave the camera a cheeky smile and wave. Princess Sofia is currently pregnant with her fourth child.

Prince Julian, Silvia’s youngest grandchild, is known for being a little mischievous at royal events, but he seemed to be on his best behaviour in a bid to make Santa’s good list.

The young royal looked particularly intrigued with the glitzy bauble box, peeking his head inside for a better look at this year’s decorations.

Julian was also seen being cuddled by his older cousin Prince Oscar and holding hands with his brother Prince Gabriel in a sweet group photo.

Many of the girls were dressed in festive attire consisting of patterned dresses, while the boys dressed in shirts and jumpers for the occasion.

This comes as Queen Silvia attended the Nobel Prize 2024 King’s Dinner alongside her husband King Carl Gustaf XVI last week.

For the occasion, she donned a midnight blue, embroidered and jewelled floor-length gown.

Featuring mesh sleeves, her sparkling ensemble was fitting for the lavish affair honouring Nobel laureates in the fields of medicine, physics, chemistry, literature and economics.

The wife of King Carl Gustaf XVI also wore the symbolic white sash and complementary brooch.

Her diamond necklace paired perfectly with her elaborate diamond-encrusted tiara.

It seems that Silvia is making a gradual recovery after the palace announced last month that she was suffering from a ‘severe respiratory infection’ – leading her to miss a state visit to Singapore.

The Swedish royal couple had planned to visit the island country from November 19 to November 21 – but only King Carl Gustaf attended.

The full statement was shared on the Royal Household’s website and it read: ‘Due to a severe respiratory infection, HM The Queen has decided not to accompany HM The King on the State Visit to Singapore 19–21 November.

‘The Queen was looking forward to visiting Singapore and regrets that she is unable to accompany The King on the trip.

‘However, out of consideration for the Singaporean hosts and the rest of the State Visit delegation, The queen chooses to remain in Sweden, to not risk exposing others to infection.

‘Her Majesty’s planned individual parts of the State Visit programme will be carried out by accompanying state secretary and the First Lady of the Court.’
