  1. Everything except beer and roads is metric, though even the signs saying “yards” are just in metres.

Our data storage is in metric. It just gets converted on display for the old geezers.

  2. Peak Barry is being able to measure everything in 3 different ways.

  3. We use inches or mm depending on what number is closer on the tape measure. Saying something is 17 inches wide and 400mm long isn’t unusual here

  4. We need to know both for when we begin colonisation again

  5. Myanmar doesn’t use imperial but their own traditional system.

They have a similar thing in China, too. It’s called Chi and it’s defined as 1/3 of a metre nowadays. The horrible part: There are tape measures out there that have 3 Chi where you would expect them to have one metre but their division is ten parts per Chi, so not 3cm but 3.3cm.

  6. UK guide On How to Succeed in international Business, 1555-2016

    1. Encourage them to speak in your language, if not, occupy them till they learn it

    2. Install your methodology for the law (common law) in a place, if they resist, occupy them till they adapt it

    3. Demand access to markets, if they suggest otherwise, occupy them till they allow it.

    4. **Learn both methods of measurements, use one to play off against the other. “Oh it’s , £10 for 1kg or £10 for 2lbs, a great deal?”**

    5. Water is the cheapest way to move things you wish to buy, purchase or steal, forego an army and instead put all your character points into a navy.

    6. Wish to weaken your and others national power? Occupy dozens of small islands and turn them into tax havens. You don’t have to worry about your faltering national taxation income if you are also detrimental to other nations taxation.

    Stick around for more.

  7. Yeah, we may not be able to learn a new language but good luck converting some of the shit we have to

  8. I’m all for shitting on Barry, but Paddy also measures height in inches

  9. We use everything and nothing at the same time. Schrödinger’s measurement

  10. Miles is just so much more romantic, kilometres makes me think of an autistic German working out how to fail at conquering Europe… again

  11. Canada uses both, but we’re no liars, just confusing.

  12. Actually, American units are also measured in SI units since 1959.
