Blair admits he ‘may have been wrong’ about Iraq, Afghanistan invasions

  1. This is just the classic non apology of, I might have been wrong in hindsight, but at the time I thought it was right [so I wasn’t really wrong]. What are the reasons you thought it was right…

He’s still probably the best prime minister we’ve had in quite a while..

    Edit-actually probably Brown, but irrelevant

  2. At the time Blair wrote to Bush: “when we are successful in Iraq, we’ll be successful in other countries in the region”.

The Neocon plan of “7 countries in 5 years” was to start with Iraq and end with regime change or occupation of Iran.

In view of the above, it is abundantly clear what Blair’s thinking was at the time.

  3. I don’t understand why even he puts Iraq and Afghanistan on the same level. The invasion of Afghanistan is pretty much universally considered to have been legal and justified and the coalition gathered probably the biggest collection of states in human history. The justifications for the Iraq War were totally different and the mainstream interpretation of international law is that the invasion was illegal, regardless of how horrible of a repressive totalitarian dictator Hussein was.

  4. British War Criminal: “it may have been wrong to commit those war crimes, but it’s in the past now.”

As an Irishman, fuck this cunt. Solidarity to all nations who have suffered Britains bloodthirst.

  5. It was the single most damaging decision to western interests in the last 30 years. Putin has credibly used it as a excuse for his every agression. It was a naked attempt at regime change. Blair started off his career halfway decently.

Good Friday agreement, minimum wage. However he ended up in complete disgrace. By opening the flood gates to unrestricted migration he planted the seeds for Brexit. By ignoring the societal changes of post imperial migration from outside the EU it set in motion the rise of UKIP.

His time in office and he is personally such électoral poison that even the fact that the Tories have been in power nearly 15 years cant persuade the British public vote Labour.

This shambolic government have overseen nearly 200,000 dead from Covid, Britain exiting the the EU. Brought back nationalisation.

  6. And it took him only 19 years to realise it *might* have been a mistake? A bit of a slow learner, isn’t him? Maybe 19 years from now he’ll understand it was a catastrophic mistake.
