  1. **From The Telegraph:**

A senior Russian general in charge of the military’s nuclear and chemical weapons division has been killed by a bomb hidden in an electric scooter, as a Ukrainian source claimed Kyiv was behind the attack.

Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov was killed along with his assistant when the bomb was detonated remotely as they left an apartment building a few miles southeast of the Kremlin early on Tuesday morning.

The Security Service of Ukraine has taken responsibility for the assassination, according to a Ukrainian security source quoted by both Reuters and AFP news agency.

“Kirillov was a war criminal and an absolutely legitimate target, as he gave orders to use banned chemical weapons against the Ukrainian military,” the source said.

Lt Gen Kirillov had been sanctioned by the UK over his use of chemical weapons in Ukraine and is believed to be the most senior Russian officer assassinated since the full scale [invasion of Ukraine](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/12/16/north-korea-ukraine-russia-war-kursk-hur-language-barrier/).

“An explosive device planted in a scooter parked near the entrance of a residential building was activated on the morning of December 17 on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow,” said the Russian Investigative Committee.

“Igor Kirillov, the head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, and his assistant were killed,” it added.

Photographs posted on Russian Telegram channels showed a shattered entrance to a building littered with rubble and two bodies lying in the blood-stained snow. A criminal case has been opened.

A partially destroyed electric bike was also visible amongst the wreckage.

Russian state news agencies reported the device had an explosive force equivalent to 300g of TNT.

Several cars and the first four floors of the apartment building were damaged.

Russia’s radioactive, chemical and biological defence troops, known as RKhBZ, are special forces who operate under conditions of radioactive, chemical and biological contamination.

The unit’s motto is: “After us, there is nobody.”

Ukrainian prosecutors charged Lt Gen Kirillov in absentia on Monday with the alleged use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said. Russia denied those accusations.

The SBU has claimed that Russia used chemical weapons nearly 5,000 times under Kirillov’s leadership.

Britain sanctioned Lt Gen Kirillov in October over the reported use of riot control agents and choking agent chloropicrin on the battlefield.

  2. I can’t imagine the aftermath of decapitating a unit with the motto, “After Us, There is Nobody.”

  3. I like that the Russians have opened a criminal case, that’s funny.

  4. Excellent. strike them anytime anywhere. Keep them all scared and clueless.

  5. All that is needed is a sign placed on his remains, saying “Touchable”.

  6. Look like real terrorism. Killing people like that is dangerous to other innocent people.

  7. This is outrageous. The responsible General dies instead of thousands of his pawns? This degree of targeting of actually responsible people from the upper strata is just a gross violation of accepted norms of warfare.

  8. Excellent Black Ops, Ukraine Intelligence is getting better and bolder

  9. Good. Lets hope for many more to come. Russians reap what they’ve sown.

  10. Budanov doesn’t seem to be in agreement with their motto. And Budanov seems to be winning.

  11. Are you saying moscows too generals arent safe anywhere? Not even in their own capital? Who do they have to blame for this predicament, if they were feeling a bit coup’y, I wonder…

  12. Thoughts and prayers for the scooter. I hope he makes it.

  13. Just 300g of TNT, killing exactly who they wanted, first attempt, no collateral casualties, in the enemy capital city.

    Slow clap, Ukraine, slow clap.

  14. Mossad: *Sniff* they grow so fast.

(For anyone wandering. I’m not making any statements, it was just a joke, nothing more.)

  15. Am I the only one who thinks it’s strange a Russian general and his assistant would be traveling on an eBike in December in Russia?
