I wouldn’t be too picky. The rest of the social media package does the same thing.
The EU needs to crack down on TikTok and other social networks vigorously. We can’t let manipulated algorithms controlled by geopolitical adversaries or rivals dictate public opinion in Europe.
YouTube is also cesspool of Russian propaganda. The algorithm promotes pro-Kremlin channels and rewards them by increasing visibility. Not a day goes by without getting some Jordan Peterson or Sacks video shoved down your throat.
EU Commission will announce new measures soon.
Just get rid of TikTok and x please, regulate the rest of them. It’s reckless to leave these forms of media unregulated considering China and Russia are weaponising them against democracies
How to make sure when we try to shut close this pandora box, it will not instead open another box and let some authorities decide what we should consume? Isn’t that the same problem of “manipulating” the election?
Ban tiktok and heavily regulate Meta, while subsiding european alternatives.
Time to require recommendation engines are switched off by default? And have to be opt in?
Social media sites can advertise and provide a less personalised version of the product. They do not have a god given right to your data. Reject
What we are seeing withTikTok and other social media is what has happened to all other types of media in history. Politicians realized they can be used to help them in their elections and are using that fact, you saw it with Trump in the US he campaigned on social media he was on podcasts… and that gave him more engagement with younger people now everyone is following behind him. We saw that with the Romanian elections, in the end stuff like TikTok edits will become a type of political add / propaganda.
