Trump transition team has fleshed out its plan to destroy the US EV market. Trump said that he would kill the $7,500 federal tax credit for electric vehicles and cut funding for electric vehicle production and charging stations. He also vowed to kill the non-existent “Joe Biden EV mandate.“

  1. But I thought Elon was supposed to get unlimited gov contracts???

  2. Biden’s tax credit just pays the finance companies because interest rates under him was the highest in almost 25 years.

  3. “Destroy” is kind of a strong word. Anything he does can be undone. The whole world is moving towards electric vehicles and he cannot stop that from happening anymore than he can stop the tides from occurring. It’s kind of like if he tried to “destroy” the Internal Combustion Engine back in the day to keep the horse and carriage around.

  4. So that’s all EXCEPT for the things his apartheid era SOuth Africa buddy finds personally useful?

  5. I wonder how many more trademarks Ivanka got for crimping American energy?

  6. Only eight stations were ever built from the charging station fund. It is not needed.

Neither is the tax credit, it has not applied to most Teslas for a while.

If electric cars are the better choice, people will buy them. Time for electric to stand on its own, and stop subsidizing cars for the rich (or at least well off) at the expense of the poor.

  7. EV market only exists because of subsidies and mandates. They’re bad cars.

  8. If a government give away is why someone buys and EV I’m at a loss

  9. I doubt President-Elect Elon Musk will allow Vice President-Elect Donald Rump to destroy the EV market.

  10. I don’t want my tax dollars being used to subsidize electric cars that are mostly the rich drive

  11. Tesla disclosed in December 2023 that its Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range vehicles would lose federal tax credits starting Jan. 1 2024 due to battery sourcing. The Model 3 Performance retains the $7,500 credit for now. Musk might feel that his competitors’ EV sales would benefit more then Tesla and support ending the tax credit.

  12. Oh boy, so what is going to happen with his first lady Elon Musk?

  13. There was no mandate per se but the CAFE emissions goal set for new cars made after 2027 would only be possible if a significant portion of those cars were electric or some crazy advance in lowering tailpipe emissions could happen in the next two years. The standards work on an average of all the cars produced by a company so for every stupid truck some idiot doesn’t need to be driving they’d have to make several economy cars to offset it. The problem is nobody is buying economy cars anymore and everyone wants to drive their own Canyonaro for their one person commute to work each day.

  14. Yeah but the important thing is that you kept Kamala Harris out of office.

  15. This is, as usual, idiotic and short sighted. Fossil fuels are a finite resource. Transitioning now to electric vehicles is important for future generations, better for the environment, and smarter.

  16. Wouldn’t Musk be a tad miffed by this? What does Daddy Musk feel about this?

  17. Awesome !

Any product, device or service that relies on billions of dollars of Govt subsidies to remain competitive let alone solvent should be “ killed “

Besides, auto dealers across the Nation are having a hard time getting rid of the EVs that are stacking up in their lots.

And that’s with the current government subsidies, manufacturer incentives and deep price cuts

Why ? Because the honeymoon is over. Consumers have woken up to the reality that EV technology is inferior and they just don’t want to deal with the limitations that come with it

Beware of any “ new and innovative “ technology that’s being pushed by either politicians or ideologues.
This includes solar, wind and EVs

  18. It will be 1 year of this so measure your outrage. Then the next election cycle starts and they probably lose their maturity and Thrump becomes a lame duck. Then we spend two years with more political investigations. So riveting !

  19. It’s going to take a solid effort to recover from the Biden administration. That was by far my worst pick ever. Who would have thought someone could do so much damage in four years?

  20. Why I bought my used electric car with the 4k used rebate this year. Paid cash $15k, in 2 years it will have paid for itself in saved gas and oil changes. Energy saved, money saved. Only charge at home. 200 mile battery.

FWIW I live in California, central coast some of the highest gas in USA.
