Kurds caught in crossfire of Syria ‘power vacuum’ • FRANCE 24 English

Fighting between Turkish-backed and Kurdish-led forces in northern Syria has left dozens dead in recent days, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor has said, as various factions battle for influence in the wake of the ouster of president Bashar al-Assad by rebel forces. France 24’s Douglas Herbert takes a look at how Syria’s Kurds in particular have found themselves targeted amid the power vacuum left by Assad’s fall.

  1. The Kurds Not The Arab Syrian .
    Syrian Are The Arab .
The Kurds Are Not Will Never Be Allow To Govern Syria .
    Syria Arab Country.

  2. A correction PKK is universally recognized as terrorist organisation… not only “turkey sees pkk as terrorists”

  3. The Kurds [A] are an Iranian ethnic group in the Middle East. They have historically inhabited the mountainous areas to the south of Lake Van and Lake Urmia, a geographical area collectively referred to as Kurdistan. Most Kurds speak Northern Kurdish Kurmanji Kurdish (Kurmanji) and Central Kurdish (Sorani).

  4. The population of 90% of the areas occupied by the Kurds (with the help of Americans and international fighters) is Arabs, Turkmens and Armenians. They have occupied them by force. Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad, the people there have been holding rallies every day against the Kurdish occupation, and these rallies have been suppressed by the Kurds. You are blind. You don't see this.

  5. If you have started to shoot at all others around you while you are leaning your back onto a global imperialist power like the US, you had better expect some kind of backfire in the future from your victims. This is exactly what PKK-YPG is experiencing right now. On the other hand, as long as France cannot differentiate legitimate states from terrorist organizations not to give up trivial interests in the Middle East And Africa, its unrealistic and biased foreign policy is doomed to collapse in the long run. Being objective and unbiased seems to be the orphan of Europe that nobody wants to adopt in the continent.

  6. Collaboraters have always been the biggest losers when the occupation and suppression are over. So are the PKK-YPG-SDF terror conglomerate.

  7. PKK is considered as terrorist organisation not only by Turkey but also by US, Europe, İnternational communities. İf you claim there is no direct link between PKK and PYD, you are either stupid or PKK fan. About Arabs in Northeastern Syria, look at the fckng news, demonstrations, they dont want to be a part of alien PKK terrorists!

  8. If you are so worried about Kurds, give Kurds a land in France. let them have their own state in there.
    thank you

  9. Im sympathetic to the kurds and their wish for greater autonomy or even independence. However no armed group in Syria is completely innocent in terms of war crimes. Out of respect and justice for the victims, these crimes must be addressed and victims helped, whether they are Kurds, Yazidis, Arabs or any other of the very diverse and beautiful peoples of Syria

  10. SDF in Syria are in a hard place now because they overplayed their hands with too much emotion and ambition without seeing realities. Now all they need to do to live in peace and prosperity is these:

1- Listen to the local people where they are now, bring them services,
2- Dialogue with other factions, especially Damascus,
3- Send foreign ISIS fighters to where they come from within a plan with that countries. They have to deal with their convicts, this is not Syrians' burden,
4- Remove all non-Syrians from their ranks,

    5- Disband YPG,
6- Give up dreams of autonomy, contribute politically in all Syria to fend the rights of not only Kurds but all as equal citizens, to make new laws and enforce them within the context of terror-free, sovereign, democratic one Syria integrated with the world.

    This is the only way.

  11. I am curious. If the PKK had killed 40 thousand people in France, including children and women, would France call them terrorists or innocent Kurds? We are tired of your lies. What would you say if the PKK put bombs on public transportation vehicles and detonated them? What would you say if a Kurdish father who did not pay tribute to the PKK killed all his children, the youngest of whom was 4 months old (11 bullets in this baby's body. All AK-47 Bullets)? What would you say to the PKK, which murdered 33 people, including women, children and men, in Pınarcık, Mardin? These people were also Kurds. Stop reading fairy tales. Turkey has no problem with the Kurds. He has a problem with terrorism.
Classic American lie. Kurds defeated ISIS. America's only concern there is oil and puppets who will fight for Israel.

  12. You westerners like it or not, we won’t let YPG terrorist organization to have statelet in Northern Syria. You should mind your own business and stay away from Middle East.

  13. The Kurdish people, and indeed the broader international community, must recognize the dangerous trajectory that Turkey under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has taken, especially in terms of its relationship with NATO and its broader security posture. Erdoğan's decision to procure advanced military hardware, such as the Russian S-400 missile defense system, directly undermines Turkey's alliance with NATO and threatens the cohesion of this crucial international alliance.
This move is seen as a betrayal not only of Turkey’s NATO allies but also of the values that underpin the North Atlantic Treaty Organization—collective defense, democratic values, and unity in the face of common threats. The acquisition of the Russian S-400 system is a clear example of Erdoğan's willingness to prioritize his own strategic interests over Turkey's long-standing commitments to NATO, putting the security and unity of the alliance at risk.
For the Kurdish people and their allies, this decision should be seen as a stark reminder that Erdoğan’s policies are often shaped by political expediency and a willingness to collaborate with adversarial powers like Russia, which has long supported Kurdish opposition groups, including those in Syria. By aligning with Russia, Erdoğan strengthens forces that have historically been hostile to the Kurdish cause, whether through support for the Syrian regime or backing factions that seek to undermine Kurdish autonomy and safety.

This act of treachery—of aligning Turkey with Russia over NATO—also highlights Erdoğan's growing authoritarian tendencies, which further alienate him from the democratic principles that the Kurdish people and their allies champion. As NATO becomes increasingly divided over Turkey’s actions, the Kurdish struggle for self-determination, autonomy, and security is put in jeopardy, particularly as Erdoğan seeks alliances with powers that have little regard for Kurdish rights.
Kurdish people and their allies should recognize the dangerous implications of Erdoğan's foreign policy choices, which undermine Turkey's traditional alliances and security commitments. The acquisition of Russian weapons is not only a betrayal of NATO but also a dangerous shift that could further marginalize the Kurdish cause in the region. It is imperative for the international community to hold Turkey accountable, ensuring that Turkey's actions do not jeopardize the stability and security of the region, and that the rights and aspirations of the Kurdish people are protected from the forces of oppression and authoritarianism.

  14. Turkey has the right to support the Syrian National Army (SNA) and call for Kurds, the United States, and Israel to leave Syria based on the claim that Syria "belongs" solely to its inhabitants is deeply flawed and lacks legal and historical grounding.
The SNA, which operates mostly in areas of northern Syria such as Afrin, is a coalition of various armed groups backed by Turkey. While it claims to fight for the Syrian people, many of these groups have been accused of committing human rights violations, including looting, forced displacement, torture, and abuses against Kurds, Arabs, and other ethnic minorities. These actions have undermined their legitimacy as "liberators" of the Syrian people.
Turkey has been accused of supporting radical and jihadist groups in Syria. For instance, during the early years of the Syrian Civil War, reports indicated that Turkey allowed various rebel factions, including groups with extremist ideologies like Jabhat al-Nusra (al-Qaeda’s affiliate) and Ahrar al-Sham, to operate across its border with Syria. This raises serious concerns about Turkey's selective support for groups that are neither moderate nor aligned with broader international goals of stabilizing Syria.
The Kurdish people and their allies should recognize the dangerous implications of Erdoğan's foreign policy choices, which undermine Turkey's traditional alliances and security commitments.

  16. There are approximately 70 million Kurds in the Middle East and the Kurds are very brave, very innovative and very pro-democratic people. I hope the Kurds will be independent and free like every other nation. In the Middle East, Turks and Arabs defend democracy and secularism much more than Persians. If a strong Kurdish state is established in the Middle East, great and permanent democracy and peace will come to the region. I hope the Kurds will be independent and free, this is their right.
