  1. A hasty generalisation and a fallacy of composition in so few words? It is clear that the writer has absolutely no idea about what she is talking about. Most of the article has absolutely nothing to do with Ireland and Irish people. She seem to set up the conclusion from the start and unsurprisingly arrives at it after a risible anecdote. Well, its the times of Israel afterall.

  9. Whilst that blog post is indefensibly bad and ill informed, I still think it’s worth interrogating the vigour of Irish opposition to Israel and Zionism.

    Undeniably, it’s not a simple case of being opposed to the killing of innocent civilians. There are much more egregious cases that haven’t prompted any such Irish backlash. 
    Yet I don’t think antisemitism explains it, even though it may have the appearance of antisemitism at times.

    I suspect it’s best explained in the context of anti-colonialism and in particular a deep disdain of British colonial arrogance. The Jews are seen as white colonisers, the Palestinians as non-white victims of colonisation. Not quite black and white, but close to it. The Syrian Civil War on the other hand is all shades of brown.

Opinion piaces should not be taken to be the official stance of the media or even news really……that said, while there are crazy media articles everywhere, Israeli nationalism produces some of the craziest sh*t I’ve ever seen. There’s another one where a rabbi threatens(sorry, “gives advice to”) “Ireland’s leader”. Essentially saying everyone who criticised Israel (Biden and Trudeau) was punished by God, soooo best behave if you don’t want to get smitten or smth. Crazyyyyyy

  11. The thing is I couldn’t give a shit about religion it doesn’t matter to me or most people these days. If the Irish government were doing what they are I’d absolutely be opposed to them and call them out. Equating everything to religion is such a cop out, no one cares what religion you are just stop murdering innocent people and calling everyone anti Jewish who opposes it

  12. Spain, South Africa and others have taken a stance against Israeli state violence at least as strong as ours but you never see hit-pieces full of lies and hate about them.

    The Israeli government, and it’s mouthpieces like the Times of Israel, really are fucking terrified that the small English-speaking island that’s against the idea of flattening cities to get your way will contaminate the Americans with our radical ideas.

    It’s the be all and end all. If we spoke Irish rather than English we’d never get a mention in the Israeli media. But Ireland speaks English and Israel cannot wage unrestricted campaigns without the Yanks gifting them so much so they’re terrified that if enough people in the States hear our point of view they might agree and start pressuring their politicians to wind Israel in and stop giving them a blank cheque to do as they wish.

    Securing said blank cheque is one of the reasons why the Israeli government encourages and supports Bible-bashing Yanks as well despite the distaste many of them have about Christians. Evangelicals in the US have convinced themselves that the book of Revelation is real, that they, of course, are all pure enough to be raptured to heaven when it happens and that it won’t happen until there’s a battle at Meggido in Israel (where the name Armageddon comes from). If there’s no Israel or if Israel is brought to heel by the US then there’s peace in the region so they give full support to Israel and encourage it to be as reckless as possible. And these Evangelicals have huge sway in the Republicans party.
