  1. Similar situation to India. They will continue to support Russia just because they hate the West more and need some friends.

And honestly, who can blame them? Israel just invaded and stole hundreds of square km of land in the south, supported by the USA. Oh and has been bombing the shit out of them for the last few weeks.

EDIT: Downvote me if this makes you uncomfortable, but it is the truth. Despite all the bombs and genocide, many people in the Middle East would still chose Russia over the USA. This is a fundamental reality, and ignoring it is not in Ukraine’s interest

  2. I mean surely thats not a very difficult propositin.

  3. Never mind that, just offer a bounty for dead Russians. The fighters themselves will see the money making opportunities despite what their commanders might say.

  4. And Russia?
See the usage of the word “hope”:

“Russian Foreign Ministry expressed hope for “constructive development” of relations with Syria
    23:18 Dec 16, 2024
This follows from a statement on the department’s website.
“It is important for Russia that the future of the SAR is determined by the Syrians themselves.
We are convinced that the relations of friendship and mutual respect that have developed
between the peoples of our countries over the past decades will continue to develop constructively,”
they pointed out on Smolenskaya Square (place of Russian FM). …”

“… relations of friendship and mutual respect …”
    This is pure cynicism.
At least Russia only can hope.
Like hoping for calm weather on the Black Sea.
    No chance of military intervention.

  5. Seeing as this is exactly what the Syrians want to do, it’s hardly a tough deal.

Really it’s a cursory thing, making sure the Syrians are serious that even if all their bases have been powdered by Israel, they’re still not going to turn to Russia for defence ever again.

Russia only is begging to have that port back so that it can set up more drug rackets, but if Syria has the sanctions lifted, why would it need Russia’s dirty business?

And furthermore, if the EU itself lifts sanctions, the SDF has less and less excuses to be lounging around. From what I can see it’s still going to dig in though.

  6. If russians get kicked out from their bases then they would have much more trouble sending stuff to Africa to commit atrocities there and extort their local puppet leaders for income.
