Jaguar Land Rover electric car whistleblower sacked. Confidential emails between executives at Tata Group reveal they retaliated against mechanical engineer Hazar Denli for posting concerns on Reddit that lives were being put at risk. He was then blacklisted.

  1. Sorry, there’s whistle blowing and there is posting on Reddit. There are plenty of safety regulators for the motor industry in the US, he should have gone to them.

i work with things that could cause death, societal break down, the whole 9 yards. If I had the remotest concern, i would go to my boss or their boss. If neither of those paid attention, I would go to the regulator. If the regulator said there was no problem, I’d leave it there. I’ve never needed to go further than my boss….

  2. It’s a long article. Here are some of the key quotes/facts:

“He told the BBC that in test-driving prototypes, designed by Tata Technologies for Vietnamese car maker Vinfast, he identified improperly designed components in the car’s chassis, including its suspension system.

At low mileages, some of them were snapping off, he said.”

” We saw, for example, the front strut-to-knuckle connection was loosening, which could be extremely dangerous,” he said. “It could cause a loosening of the entire structure that could cause wheels to come off.”

“In subsequent testing, he alleges further components failed. Mr Denli said they were failing after fewer than 25,000 km (15,534 miles), when normally they would be expected to last for at least 150,000 km (93,205 miles).”

    And his reddit post:

  3. Why tf is he being described as a “Jaguar Land Rover electric car whistleblower”, when in fact he worked for their parent company Tata and a JLR car wasn’t the subject of his whistleblowing?

Am I missing something? This is shockingly bad faith journalism, I’d expect it from the Daily Express not the BBC.

  4. Comforting to know that speaking up about safety concerns, specifically trying to avoid people dying in unsafe death traps is enough to get too blacklisted from your industry.

I realise there may be arguments made by lawyers that he’s breached his NDA with Vinfast and there could be concerns he’d do it again with another company, however those can be put to bed if you consider this primarily as a safeguarding issue.

I suspect raising concerns over issues which can be construed as corporate manslaughter will take precedence over the contents of an NDA designed specifically to cover up that corporate manslaughter.

  5. I never heard about the AMA on Vinfast cars problems, now I do. Fascinating reading!

I hope he goes to the court and media will help to echo his concerns.

  6. Well they’ve really done it this time, and I for one will never buy their fish sauce again.
