  1. Cue the incoming administration asking Congress to rescind the decision. Then the industry lawsuits against the decision, followed by the administration asking DOJ not to defend against the industry lawsuits or possibly asking the decision to be remanded to the Trump EPA for reconsideration.

  2. Maybe I’m naïve, but I don’t see this being controversial with automakers; just with oil producers, & how it’s been politicized.

Automakers were/are on board with this already, beginning with Obama-era rules setting increasingly strict minimum mileage standards for gas-powered cars — to nowadays where EVs are here already and here to stay. Why invest in gas-powered cars and in meeting ever stricter standards when EVs can sidestep all of that? Electrification is the future. We see this happening everywhere, from stoves to heating and cooling.

Even Toyota, who withheld EV investment in favor of hybrids recently as a year ago, has changed their tune. They are pushing their new EV hard and even dropped the price to reflect the expected phasing out of EV credits.

  3. The incoming Trump administration does not need Congress to revoke the California waiver. The EPA can do this. The original waiver came about via the 1970 Clean Air Act and it has always been subject to renewal by the EPA as directed by the President. Trump says he will do it on day 1.

  4. California leading the country away from the dark side again…
