  1. And the authoritarian mentality continues

“Meanwhile, Stirling said the work of Detained in Dubai will continue throughout the holiday period.

She pointed to the case of Tyrone man Craig Ballentine, who she said was charged over a negative Google review he left about a former employer in Dubai.

“He was then sentenced to a fine but the prosecution appealed, they want a harsher sentence which is absolutely ridiculous for a review,” said Stirling.

“The UAE shouldn’t allow local companies to even request reviews if they are going to jail people for their honesty.””

The whole UEA is a one star review.

  2. Meanwhile in the UK you can go to jail for hate speech… Shame on both systems

  3. There should be sanctions against the UAE for their funding of the genocide in Darfur.

  4. These are the emojis

    🥷🩸

Meanwhile they have literal slaves there.

  5. So what are we talking here? Aubergines? Or did he go as far as an upside down frown?

  6. If you support these dumps by working in them/holidaying in them, then you’re legitimising them. This is the risk you run.

  7. To clarify … Was this a general text or an app like WhatsApp?

Does the Uae intercept these messages or did the Belgian lad show them to police ?

  9. Going to the UAE on holiday or to work should really be looked down on a lot more than it is. There seem to be new stories like this every few months. This is an extremely repressive authoritarian country, choosing to go there for your holidays or to work shows a real lack of moral compass imo

  10. >She added that the UAE applies its laws extraterritorially, “so visitors can be charged with online communication made from outside the country, even years before travelling to the Emirates”

So basically anyone that’s ever said anything bad about Dubai online could be arrested if their flight is stopping over there?

  11. I will never understand why people want to go there. It is a polished turd. A shiny, capitalist hellscape built with slavery by narcissistic religious zealots.

  12. Zero sympathy for anyone going to these countries with indentured slaves and backwards laws.

  13. A fella up North was recently arrested & detained for leaving a poor Dog grooming review in Dubai.

  14. Thank god they tolerate other cultures and beliefs like this country

  15. Pretty crazy thing to jail someone for, but also, maybe just don’t go to Dubai. Couldn’t care less what happens to someone who chooses to go and support such a place

  16. The amount of young teachers out there is baffling, really puts people’s morality or lack of on full display.

  17. How come the Belgian  lad didn’t  get jn trouble  for robbery?
    Weird situation.

  18. I know this is somehow Israel’s fault, but I can’t think how 🤔

  19. If he posted them on Reddit, then it’s understandable..

  20. Absolutely fucked ideology they have bought into there. Can only encourage people not spend time or money on places like that.

Something weird about his situation there, but that’s neither here or there.
